Steel City DH Saturday

Drum and Bass on the Bike on Sunday

Will be going to Steel City, not sure about D&Botb - looks like a cracking event though.

Shame the weather isn't looking great.

Who's doing either?

Probably both. I was planning to spectate at Steel City but I had no idea Dom Whiting was coming back so that's a nice surprise.

Looks like it starts at Dev Green at 14:00. That's an easy ride from home with Junior on the Shotgun.

Weather forecast is less than spectacular unfortunately.

£5 to park and £5 to get in at SteelCity this weekend remember.

No complaints, just a heads up. I might go if the weather looks ok, its a good laugh.

Probably going to ride at Wharny before going up to Greno for a bit of spectating. Never been before so looking forward to it.

Sure it used to be 2 or 3 quid to park. The farmers empty field expenses must have gone up.

There's also a £5 suggested donation which I don't mind chucking a few quid in. I always come home with a bag of Steel City merch anyway.

I've no problem with chucking a few quid in to support the event/woodlands

A few people seem to lug their bikes around the event, but they generally get in the way and it looks like a pita.

Be careful if you intend leaving your bike in the car in the general area

Thanks, will probably park in the event car park early doors, ride, change and lock the bikes in the van before heading over.

That's a useful tip. Anyone using the car park, do not leave anything on display anywhere. There's been loads of break-ins over the years. My mate had his car window broken just for a muddy old full face helmet.

One year there were cars and vans covered in muddy footprints where people had just stamped on them for some reason. It would be nice if they spent some of the parking fee on security or attendants of some kind.

Went to DnBOTB a few weekends ago in Brighton - well worth it for the community buzz, traffic mayhem and cycling's wonderfully inclusive demographic. I'd def make time to do it again.

Me and the eldest will be at Steel City on Saturday. Weather looks interesting. I remember the first post COVID one they did, was in 2022 in May I think and the weather was beaut.

@sharkattack was that things that happened in the event car park on race day? If so it's the first I've ever heard of anything bad happening in it, no one has ever got in touch with Steel City to say anything has happened while parked in there? There are 2 folks around the car park all day, lots more in the morning when registration etc is happening.

To address some of the above parking has been a fiver for several years now, certainly since Covid. We are asking for folks to donate on entry this year, you'll need a reusable glass for the bar (no disposables this year) and you don't get a lot for a fiver now so we didn't think it was unreasonable. If folks really don't want to pay it they won't have to but hopefully folks will think it's reasonable.

As a reminder, the race is all run by volunteers and all money raised is reinvested in to the trails/woods. None of the organisers get paid for the hundreds and hundreds of hours of work that goes in to making the race happen, it's all done for the trails. Hopefully that will also make folks happier to donate when they understand that it's not going in anyone's pocket!

I'm guessing the normal car park on the Wharny side. I've never had any bother in the event car park/field

I'm hoping the same but keen to know as if that is in the event car park it's something we really need to know about!

Yeah I just realised how far I'm going back now it was years ago, maybe before I lived here. We were walking back to the van in the official car park and there was a couple of cars and a little Berlingo or something parked in a line. Someone had put big muddy footprints all over them.

My mates window was broken on race day but not sure where he was parked. All because he left a scruffy old full face helmet on his back seat.

Good to know there will be people around during the day though.

Edit: I'm not having a dig at the event or the efforts of the volunteers, it's a mint day out. You should definitely go and spend some cash there. I've been to most of them. It's just a given now, there are scrotes everywhere and a bike race is a magnet for them. Don't make it easy for them.

Thanks, as I said no one has ever contacted the race after to let us know about anything happening!

I'm always a little surprised about how little people respond to Steel City threads on here, considering the rather large 'close to Sheffield' contingent.

That said, it's always busy though

If you haven't been before, get yourself down. It's not just a race it's a great vibe.

And you get to say hi/chat to Peaty and whichever of his mates have come along

You lot are into bikes, right? 🤣

We have never had a problem or heard of any one having a problem with the race event carpark. Over the years there has been loads of thefts and damage in the top car park.

Paying to park on the race day should be a given however some always moan.

The donation is a great idea. Fingers crossed the spectators get into the spirit of it and dig deep.

Going to miss it this year as its always a top event

In to bikes on here, You would have thought so. 😂

Cracking day/event as always. And the weather was kinder than expected.

Any chance of getting it back to May rather than September?

Another great Steel City. Enjoyed a mooch round, a trail ale, a pizza and chatting with various folks in the bomb hole. Great seeing the pros going at pace down the track, took a few photos too but didn't go as a photographer this year.

Only found out about this event due to this original post, (been away from bikes for years)

Decided to go and take the Lad along and we both thoroughly enjoyed the event.

A lot busier than we expected, the atmosphere was amazing, crowd cheering all the riders on.

The young kids were absolute nuts, so much potential.

All in all an excellent day out and we left just before the monsoon hit

We're now unable to have it in the previous normal May window due to some concerns around nesting birds in the woodland from the land manager (not known issues or birds but the potential) so it has to be end of June onwards now which realistically takes us to September.

The entry donations/tickets/glasses went down very well overall, very few folks upset/complained about it, most were very happy to support which was great to see.

I left with a backpack full of goodies as always and had food and drink x 3. Good day out. The pint glasses will come in handy for years to come.

Junior enjoyed it.

Just clocked who this is, I said Hi to you on Saturday and you looked absolutely mentally busy.

Excellent event you put on, keep up the good work
