I know Shigura hybrid brakes are popular. Has anyone tried mixing Shimano and Clarks?

I've got some Shimano slx brakes with leaky calipers. Also recently picked up some cheap Clarks brakes with a broken lever. The Clarks use Shimano pads and mineral oil. Thought I'd give it a go. I was going to cut the Clarks hoses and fit a Shimano olive but on disassembly the existing fitting looked pretty similar. The thread was identical so I just screwed the Shimano lever straight on. I only did one so I'd have at least one brake, just in case, and went for a ride. Seemed to all work very well, had a very similar feel to the original Shimano but without the recent squeal and lack of power.

Anyone tried similar or had any issues? Will likely do the other one tomorrow.

Interesting, which Clarkes and which Shimano?

Not that impressed with the Clarks levers on my eldests scout.

I've done it during lockdown with Shimano and tektro and also Shimano and Clarks. Works fine

Yes interesting... I love the shape of Shimano levers but the calipers are pish. Always end up leaking and a pig to bleed without wandering bite point.

I've got a few sets in the spares bin with bust calipers that I could possibly revive.

Would be interested to know which Clarks brake you used

These are the Clarks brakes I used. Not sure of the model, I bought them at the jumble for a few quid with a broken lever. Handy that they use the same pads as I have a few spares.

Here it is paired up with my slx lever (M666 I think). Should work with any Shimano lever as they are all interchangeable aiui.

Did the other one this morning and went round the block. Feels great.

They look like they're designed to be. You can't even see the difference!

I thought about using Magura levers and Shimano calipers but it would have been a Mash up...
