If I wanted to access a route I'd download a GPX, open it one of my many mapping apps and follow it. That's fine, but what if I wanted to share a route to someone who wasn't a tech nerd? I tought I could share a KML file and have it open with something google but that doesn't seem to work. Is there a way to make a route pop up in something standard like Google maps? It'll be off-road. I don't mind doing a bit of heavy lifing at my end to create a particualr file or upload it somewhere, ideally to make it very simple/non-technical for the person at the other end.
Upload the route to RideWithGPS and share the link? They can look at it in a browser on about 6 different maps if they want, or download it in a format of their choice.

Can do it, but you need to sign up for a maps API key.

+1 for Ride-with-GPS
You can view a .gpx in Google Earth (not Maps). Either drag and drop the file, or open it from the File menu (although for some reason .gpx isn't listed in the file types so you need to pick *.* as the type).
You can add a kml file to Maps. You need to create it in the My Maps section ... Or whatever they're calling it this week. I've heaps of motorbike trails etc I've transferred that way.
