The boggies are looking pretty good out of this, scaring off all the loners who don't like riding with people....

It doesn't sound brilliant.

To digress slightly though, it does take all sorts, even in something as totally 'rad' as mountain biking.

I was riding in the Peaks when I heard a bloke nearing the top of a steep, but not very long climby bit (not a 'climb') just a steep little rise.

Anyway he was shouting stuff like "c'mon mother ****er, c'mon" and really hacking at the pedals. A minute or so later the rest of his group appeared. Was it a super-competitive XC bunch? A piss-taking bunch of mates? No it was his wife or girlfriend who just looked a bit embarrassed and amused by her other half.

If it was a bloke who'd been left behind, would you all be making such a fuss about it?

We once organised an STW ride at the Roman Lakes and all set off at an easy pace.
About 7 minutes into the ride I realised Hora had gone missing. He'd decided that his forks/saddle/pedals/tyres weren't in good order. All 7 of us turned tail and went back to help out 🙂

Why do people keep saying she was left behind ? She found the pace a bit quick and decided to head for home. According to someone who was there, she was asked if she wanted someone to go with her and the offer was declined. Leaving a group is very different from being left behind.

I was once on a STW ride in Calderdale lead by Ton. Me and one other got sperated and spent a very pleasant afternoon in the Cafe Cali instead.

Seriously, this thread ?? talk about making a bullshit mountain out of a total non event. STW at its finest.

The last group ride I went on, I organised.

Almost at the top of the first climb my rear mech went into the spokes and bent the mech hanger severely.

Another bloke who was on the ride gave me his bike and pushed mine back to the car before sitting in a pub to wait for us.

What is the biking equivalent of the DSM I wonder.............?

I was at Glentress in the summer and had two chainring bolts shear, with a third on its way out.

I was way way out the back of the black, hours walk from the car. A group passed and stopped to check what was up. One happened to be carrying a spare chainring bolt(!). They all hung about until they were sure my chainring was going to stay put and had offered to give me some donor bolts from their own bikes if I was still worried.

True gents, saved me a long walk and put a smile on my face too 🙂

Clearly not BogTrotters though eh 😉

It's not generally the done thing, but if they're insistent!
It used to fall upon me to go back, but then there are plenty of other weekends. That said I did leave the very club I set up because it became detrimental to my own riding in the end. being club chairman in a year that saw a huge influx was like a full time job.

As for clubs telling you that you will be left behind if you can't keep up, well some have good reason. generally they aren't named after a city or town.

Is the OP actually the lady in question and using STW as a Kangaroo Court to see if the boyfriend who left her behind should get the Bomber/ wee in shoe treatment?

My wife told me there's a good chance my nuts might accidentally get caught in my chain if I left her behind on a ride (even if she said she's ok)

If you think the BT are bad, Try going out with the Woollybacks.

What a shower of S**T they are.

I have to wait for them at the top of every climb and the bottom of every descent.

If you can't get through a minimum of 5kg of cake on a 5 mile off road ride, it is frowned upon.

Thought I would be joining a club where I could shred the gnarl 🙂

Oh, and make sure you bike as at least 200mm of travel front and rear, so you can walk up the climbs instead of riding them. 🙂

Set of shandy drinking jessabelles 😉

What do I get for my £20 + £2 a ride? I normally save that kind of ****ish "if you're dropped tough shit" attitude for the road but it's good for a laugh every now and then.

A girl was dumped by the trotters so she bummed a baby robin when it ate all the hobnobs and offered her a custard cream instead..

I thought it was OP meets girl in woods alone, tries to use best lines but gets turned down so tries to blame boggies for his poor chat up lines 🙂

The Baby robin was just pecking a babies eyes out for fun, thats just how they roll up north

This happened to me with those guys too.

1st time I'd ridden with them, website /forum/ contact I'd made with them said they were doing a 30-40 mile ride around Coniston and other valleys, so made the long trip to join them (about 20 riders that day)

Most of the way around figure they are actually going on to add a good 15-20 miles on top with no way of shortening the route, I'm blown out and obviously suffering and its below zero, yup just got left to my own devices.

Took me about 3.5 hours to work out how to get back to the cars, and when I got there they had all gone, thanks guys....

wow, very care, much crap given, amaze!

Similar story here. Rode about 100 miles to the top of Helvellyn with a snapped chain, at which point it transpired that they all had base jumping chutes. Buggers leaped off and I had to walk back to Orkney in the dark.

Shoddy.

I still want to know if the OP left her with a working bike and if not did he accompany her back to german market?

For balance, I went for a ride with the bog trotters. There was a girl who was struggling on the climbs, she was offered a short cut back to the car park and two of the experienced bog trotters accompanied her there.

I suppose circumstances demand what the outcome will be.

Clubride last year - us bunch of southern jessies at a trail centre

Bloke feels not right - but knows the place well - insists on heading back by himself. 5 mins later not feeling so good - luckily has phone - a few of us get back to him. Small heart attack. Ambulance etc. Everyone ok.

A totally different scenario for sure - but made me reevaluate letting people go back on their own on organised rides.

Multiple issues here. The woman on her way back should have either insisted BF came with her, or not whinged to someone else when he didn't. And he should have insisted on going back with her. And when he didn't, someone from the club should have done the decent thing... and if they had gone back with her, they should have helped her with her mechanical... and if they had helped, she should have ...

ok, probably better stop there... 😉

One point that doesnt seem to have made it through all the usual BS above is that the woman in question abandoned the ride, made it safely back to the digs, and then chose to go out for a pootle later in the day during which she had the mechanical.

Truly STW at its worst.

I went on a ride with the bog trotter and died. Five times. And then they left me to get my body back on my own. Gits.

I'm out with them next week though.

Is this still going? The point is, the woman should not have been left on her own. She could have bumped into any dodgy perve offering to fix her running gear.

Could? She did bump into a perve... 😉

Anyway, it's clear we need to formalise chaperoning arrangements for female riders.

I died 5 times

As your probably aware the rotters would not even let Simon B die, much to some of the groups disgust it went to a vote it went to deadlock, luckily we could not get a phone signal to let STW to decide 🙂

Re the comment two riders took female back.

I wonder if the female rider was overweight and oldish. Would people be as accommodating?/help?

(Thats a general cynical comment/not aimed at the BT's)
