I imagine how desperate that person must have been to do what he/she did

Except quite often some people aren't desperate, they do it cos they can/for kicks.
I know this because I converse with prisoners every day & I'm personal officer to 10 in particular.
A lot of people steal stuff because they love the thrill of the whole episode from the actual act of stealing right through to being chased/caught.
Unless I've been told a pack of lies by various prisoners of course, which is not beyond the realms of possibility.

They still wouldn't deserve to die for it though. Frankly you'd have to be a pretty unpleasant individual to think that they would.

Cool story bro? Says you Firestarter! Tell us more about how the things you've 'witnessed' and 'seen' make you flippant towards death.

Jesus, every one's an expert. Of course some people do some bad stuff because it's fun. But, okay, that makes it fine to be somewhat happy they're dead.

I sorry I don't have any facts and interviews to support the fact that I a little stunned that some people seem happy that someone is dead, and this happiness seems to stem from the fact that it was a bike that was stolen.

Saw enough shite in 3 tours of Bosnia to make anyone think about religion and life on general and obviously im sure your aware what happens in car accidents and house fires without going further into my current and former career?

Phunkmaster makes the most sense, but I doubt his claim:

I am not a hippy or a super hardened former SAS soldier but Jesus Christ.

A guy is dead. That is he's no longer going to wake up. Heart stopped. Family will never see him again.
To the heartless bastards on this thread - have you ever had someone close die? It's not much fun.
Grow up and face the reality of life and death you immature, ridiculous, sad excuse for human beings.
I hope you guys don't suffer the unexpected death of a family member.

This is literally the worst thread I have seen on STW. The loss of someone's life is never ok or something to be flippant about.

I find it quite disappointing that some on here think the death of another person is deserved because he stole a bit of metal worth about 30 quid

I think of it as evolution in action.

I have, thank you. But it wasn't as a result of performing a criminal act, then drowning while trying to make a run for it.

It would be all the same to me if it was jewellery, a laptop, a lawn mower, a boxed set of Morecambe & Wise DVDs, a cuddly toy...

Those of you above who think: -
- Property is worth more than life
- Being a criminal means your life is worthless

You need to have a cold hard look at yourselves and decide if your past or future is whiter than white or if you would feel the same if it was a family member. Your insensitivity and lack of compassion stinks.

Has anyone here actually been burgled? Like as in, 'home broken into & personal things taken'.
I have, twice, but don't really think I'd wish death on the perpertrators. A couple of fingers chopped off maybe....just to get them thinking.
I am in contact with convicted criminals every day, but death for a scummy bike thief? Naa.

I read the link and didnt feel glad or sad. Even petty criminals are humans who can grow out of a phase though (or equally become worse)

I don't feel sorry for the guy directly, but do for those who loved him and the people that have to deal with his death.

At the time of the Tipton Taliban (3 blokes from Tipton who went to Afganistan to train and fight and ended up in Guantanmo) my friend's mum who was the midwife to two of the boys when they were born said "they were ever such nice boys"

Our wonderful liberty is abused by some and while it causes outrage in the Daily Mail I would rather be free than chastised by the state. However, I think the Police should give chase to recover a bicycle but the problem is how they intend to stop them if they do so? Shove them off? Tap them with the front bumper?

A family is tonight without its son, father, freind, no mater what he was doing he still died, lets hope the truth comes out and we find out what really happened.

Seems pretty clear cut, tea-leaf jumped into the harbour and tried to hide between the trawler and the harbour wall, and the inevitable happened. Unless there's something unreported, there is no murky truth behind it.

Please can we organise an STW internet hardman ride.. with stops for lunch, arm wrestles, shinkicking contests and then stop at a quiet beer garden at the end of the ride for a mass coming out of the closet with group self-loathing, hugging and weeping..

Did he deserve death? Probably not. I can't see the death penalty for stealing stuff happening anytime soon. Not even in the states. Getting his hand stuck between the boat and the harbour and loosing a few fingers maybe deserved but death? Nah...

Am I bothered he died? No.

Got to agree with this. Sure he died as a result of his own actions, but to gloat over it is disgusting 🙁

Not sure if death is the equal of nicking a bike. Broken leg maybe.

He stole a bike, as a consequence of his own actions he died, that's his choice
He could have stopped running and faced consequences, but he didnt

OMG what awful news . . . But surely if the salt water is washed off quite quickly and some lube on the chain it should be ok?
