Looks interesting, would like to give one a go.
Innefficinecy is the issue - two sets of 90 degree gears absorb power
These may only be fit for pootling around the city, but just think titanium hardware........................
TJ, can see what you mean but as an alternative to claggy mud could be possibility, if they could be made to seal properly
ti hardware...nice and flexy.
I think someone posted up about a recent mtb with shaft drive.
Just forum searched the word 'shaft'. Amazed how often the word is used on here! 😀
If it is commuting type stuff you were looking for Sonoma do some shaft drive bikes that seem cheap enough...
They use Nexus hubs so you can even have some gears!
is the shaft there used as a chainstay too?, interesting concept if it is
Haven't all the shaft bikes designed been real heavy?
Think the shaft drive housing it used as the chainstay. Keeping the whole drivechain sealed as one unit is probably more heavy, but then fewer seals to go wrong and drag I guess.
I'd like to get my hands on one, but it's basically just because I want to have a go.
However, if we are going to have an enclosed drive system, a chain will be much more efficient and lighter.
