A trivial point, or not, depending on how you look at it.
Reading through the latest Rose catalogue last night, they've got review quotes next to a lot of the bikes.
One of them said something like "I bought this bike for my wife and she was very pleased with it."*, yet none of them said "I bought this bike for my husband and he was very pleased with it."

Institutional sexism, or a cunning marketing ploy because they know that many women's bikes are bought by cycling men for their non-cycling partners ?

* I haven't got the catalogue with me now to give the exact quote.

that's a bit overly fussy isn't it..?

I don't see things as ageist when I see a review that starts 'I bought this tea cosy for my gran......'

They are probably guessing that the majority of catalogue readers are men and I'd guess the same.

I don't think it's sexist.

Must be a comment from a husband who bought a bike for his wife. I'm pleased she liked it. Not sexist though.

Might have been a woman buying a bike for her same-sex partner.

Who's the sexist one now, eh?

Just bought spokes from Rose Bikes, and ticked the box for a free catalogue with the order; it is MASSIVE - kinda like the 'Kays' catalogues of old!

Almost as frustrating as Victoria Pendleton bringing out a collection of fabulously speced well sized competitively priced womes specific road mountain and cross bikes. Oh no wait she didn't did she. it was a pink shopping bike sorry my mistake.

Well there's a load of T-shirt adverts on the right side of my screen that feature curvy models who cannot be day over twenty. Maybe we all ought to think about how we react to this form of marketing approach.

Pj I believe the ads on the right are linked into what you've been browsing ie mine are about cpr rather than scantily clad teenagers 😉

Only a vegan could possibly be this self-righteous. 🙂

Way over the top Graham; I mean, what are the chances that a woman could post a review on her own anyway ?

Even if they could work out how to use a computer, they'd need a man to tell them what to write.

I have the CPR ads too! Funnily enough I was browsing earlier for T-shirts. My internet history is about as interesting as my posts!

Its Germany, they're a bit 'behind the curve' on stuff like that, they also like mullets too 🙂

And their catalogues are ace, if you are into M/C's look for the Hein Gerick or Polo ones - I'm sure they're the same with other stuff too.

Everyone knows how 'we' respond to it. Why do you think they do it?
