Got a proper double chainset and a proper double front mech, but a triple shifter.

Do i set up using the granny and middle or middle and big stops on the shifter. Intuitively I say the former but does it make any difference?

The Shimano ones are switchable between triple and double!! Might be worth a quick check.

Couldn't get it to work with a triple shifter at all. Bought a double shifter. Still wasn't working too good so now bought a 10 speed double to replace the 9 speed double. Not set it up yet though.

got it to work no bother on the granny and inner stops for the shifter. I know the newer shifters have a switch on the underside, not this one though.

Followed the instructions for mech set up that came with the double and they were different to how I remembered / how I set up a triple. But it worked.

I'd probably set it up so the 1st position is the granny, 2nd the larger one and the third (normally big ring) is unused.

That way you can't double release the cable and have to shift twice to go from small to large.

Always keep in the back of your mind that if you're on the outer chainring and you try to shift up against the stop you will most likely wreck your shifter.

i'd have to try to shift pretty hard. It's a nice light shift from inner to outer, and fairly obvious that you aren't going to get another one.
