Hi guys,
Just been out for my first ride since October riding my local woods where I had been doing most of my riding. My last two sessions in October were at "play area" where most routes are down not across as they are in the woods. This meant that I lowered my seat on my 1st generation Chameleon right down. Having spent about an hour riding through the woods I tried the saddle down which was great for flinging it etc but killed my legs. I then put it up which made my legs feel better but made the bike less fun to ride. Now I could put this down to my poor fitness, which it probably is, but how do other people set up their bikes for woodsy riding - as I say it is mostly flattish singletrack but has a fair few descent/ascents? Any suggestion/pics?
Cheers,
Rich.
Someone will be along shortly to tell you to spend £200 on a remote seatpost, but really just put it up to normal pedalling height, then drop it an inch or two. Should still be able to pedal, but should still be able to get back and such. You will have to play around to find the right height.
Or just learn how to descend with the saddle right up (it can be done).
If i'm preparing to rad it to the max gnar, i'll drop my seat post all the way. If i'm doing steady cross country, i'll have it as high as is appropriate.
Usually, i'll move it down a quarter of an inch from XC hight, and this allows reasonably efficient peddling, whilst letting me move around on the downhills properly. This is normally my all-purpose seat hight.
If you're trying to ride with it down all the time, you'll get very knackered very quickly. And build strong legs!
Yeah I think £200 might just be a bit of an indulgence. Will have a play around with it lower it a tad. Thanks.
Anyone got any pics for inspiration of a general set up?
thanks,Richard
upto 2 hours is fine with the saddle slammed for me. You just need to ride stood up more.. remote seatposts generally don't have enough range anyway.
for set-up just look at any DJ or 4X hardtail.
