Servicing Unite Instinct pedals - replacing bearings and bushings

Anyone done this? Or is it the same for most pedals, if so how and what tools? Haven't been able to get a response from them despite several recent attempts. Specifically how to get the bushings and bearings out and get new ones in.

They stock the service kit (bearings, bushes, seals). The manual says they sell tools to help remove the bushings and bearings (presumably like the DMR one), but it's not listed for sale.

When I was in touch with them last year, they were offering a service whereby pedals could be sent in for service for a few pounds more than the cost of the service kit. But it's not on the website anymore.

The V1.1 ones still on their EU website does say a free service is included, the V2 ones on their UK website has no mention. I have the V1s.

The bushing internal diameters are 10mm and 12mm, so I believe I need taps slightly larger than that. M11 and M13 perhaps, pretty odd sizes though.

I used 7/16 (11.1mm) and 1/2 (12.7mm) UNC thread taps, slightly larger than the original inner diameters, to bite into them. More common and so cheaper than M11 and M13 ones. Then pull the tap out for the inboard one, and for the outboard one knock it from the outboard end with a punch (as the shaft of the tap will be almost completely inside the pedal).

Never heard from Unite on email, WhatsApp, or Instagram.

I've serviced mine a couple of times. Bearings basically drop out and it was a case of which sockets fit best to push the bushings out. Dead easy 👍

Oh good. I didn't fancy having a go myself without any word or instructions from anyone in case I messed up the pedal body or got myself without functioning pedals for a while, so I just did the bushings using this method based on a DMR service video. The bearings are fine anyway.

How did you get the bearings to drop out? They didn't move when I bottomed the outboard bushings against them pushing from the inboard side with an 8mm socket.

I just wanted to add to this thread as i was happy with my solution.

Up till now i've been bodging things using sockets to push in bushes and this has worked ok in the past but wasn't really the best solution as you do risk cracking the fragile bush, i asked Jim from https://www.bearingprotools.com/ to make me a bush driver that helps to fit the new bushes as well as to remove the small bush, the only thing that is needed to add to this to make a full servicing kit is the 1/2" bolt to pull out the large bush (i did try the 7/16" bolt on the small bush but it just falls apart and my servicing tool works fine to push out the old bush).

Jim doesn't have this tool on his site yet but i've suggested that it could be a good idea and that i suspect there are customers out there.

I'm well chuffed with this solution, it just feels more pro when using it.
