Have an old pair of shimano 959s on my commuter - done stirling service and there is now decent play in the pedal body around the axle. What are the chances of a bearing change getting them back in shape?
I've not done one before so was wondering if it's the same situation as their cup and cone hubs, where no servicing leads to pitted races and the component eventually getting binned?
whip the axle out and pop some grease in the pedal, do the axle back up.
done
you might need to nip the bolt up a bit.
No experience of the 959 but other pedals I have serviced are a pain due to tiny bits.
Nipping bearings up is easier with the correct tool, but its stupidly expensive you can also use 7mm 11mm spanners if I recall correctly.
Are they anything like bog standard SPD's? If so piece of p***
Unscrew the pedal body adjust the bearings and off you go.
Or get a set of m520 pedals for a tenner.
