Hi

I want to service my own shock and the service guide calls for a tiny amount of Maxima® Maxum4 Extra 15w50. I know maxima is just the brand and you can’t actually seem to get the maxima stuff anywhere, so will any 15w50 work or what alternative do people use? I don’t really need 1 litre of the stuff.

Cheers

I really cannot see why you would need a multigrade for a shock.
Surely the oil never gets hot enough to warrant using it?
And yes, any 15w50 should be ok.

It's for the air can and such a small amount.

From the service guide:

Apply a small amount of grease to the air can threads. Inject 0.5 mL of Maxima® Maxum4 Extra 15w 50 into the air can before installing the air can onto the damper. Firmly press the air can down until the sealhead/air piston is inserted into the air can.

Remove the shock from the vise, turn it over and clamp the damper body eyelet in the soft jaws.
Inject another 0.5 mL of Maxima® Maxum4 Extra 15w 50 into the air can.
