I get the impression, from various threads on here, that Rockshox owners tend to service their own foks, but Fox owners send then off to an expert. Is this true? Are Fox forks harder to work on than Rockshox ones?
I've never tried rs but fox are easy to do
Depends on which fork and how far you're going to be servicing them.
I've always serviced my own fox forks but been the less complex versions float r and rl. Mate serviced his talas ones and now they wont change travel. Keep telling him to send them to loco but he's tight!!....

fox are for the most part simple to service. Complete strip and rebuild is more complicated and requires dedicated tools and in some instances a lot of skill.

Thanks. These are Fox 32 F125RL forks that came on a 2012 Trance X2. I had a couple of minor issues with them (never getting full travel and lockout not working properly). I gave them to my LBS who had them for two months (not just for the forks) but they are no better. I'll send them off for a proper servic sometime, but they haven't done many miles so I'm tempted to give them a basic service and see if I can tell what's going on.
The lockout problem is funny. Turn the lockout dial and nothing seems to happen (forks still compress easily). Turn it off, bounce the forks a few times, turn it back on and it often works (may take a few goes though).
Fox OK for normal service. You need a ground down socket (27mm?) to get the top nut off. Normal sockets are rounded and can damage the nut. other than that just follow instructions (Google). Foam washers and lube kit, plus a bottle of shock oil. And don'f forget to let the air pressure out, other wise your uppers might end up in your garage ceiling. Just saying 🙂
