Hi guys,

Just looking for some advice from the many experienced riders here regarding a European trip this year. Basically me and a mate are looking to take our bikes to across to Europe end of September for 4-5 days of riding, we plan to drive.

Is this feasible given the closeness to the ski season and can anybody recommend areas that we should look at? We have been told that this may be a little too late for Alpine riding…if thats the case are there any other areas to consider that we can drive to?

Any advice appreciated!

tbh For 4-5 days of riding in September you'd be better going to Wales or Scotland.

Lots of lifts will be closed but there may be a couple of places open. I would no way drive for 4-5 days - even if it was a week I'd fly.

If I was in your shoes I'd go to the Sierra Nevada for a long weekend. Not dependent on ski lifts, still warm, easy and plentiful flights to Malaga. Much cheaper to fly than drive all the way down there.

I think the lifts at Metabief, Lac Blanc and possibly Le Bresse might be open at the weekends in early sept. It might also be worth considering riding without lifts in those areas - both like Wales / Scotland but on steroids.

Thanks guys - great advice and appreciate it. Plans now changed to a flying trip and hiring full sus bikes at destination, we have been looking at Austria (Kitzbuhel), but not sure if the riding will be worth the journey & expense.

Stunning singletrack rides with plenty of bus uplift during the day & fantastic après-bike on the coast at night.
