Why does nobody click on 'About this item' on ebay before sending a question. Im sick of repeating myself and writing the same thing in item description too.

Hi what's your best price on this?

From the opposite side trying to buy a cheap bike at the moment for turbo work. Lots of bikes with starting bids from £70 but reserves of double that for a 5 year old Carrera. No chance of reaching that price hence no bids and multiple relistijg but no realisation of this fact!

This one isn't too bad. Some frames are defined in inches (16, 18, 20, etc) so it's good to know the actual size. Makes it easier to compare to other brands too. Obviously you can do your own research but it's still good to check

Why does nobody click on ‘About this item’

Clearly I'm missing something. There is no ‘About this item’ on any of the eBay listings I can find. I'm on a PC - is it something that only appears on a small screen?

Think he means the 'Item Specifics', the box above description that contains all the info you put in at the start of the auction.

I have to hang my head in shame and admit I've done the 'what size is it' question only to realise it's in the title.

I (just) had a message from chap complaining that some 5mm spacers we sell are only 4.96mm thick. I'm not a religious person but Jesus ****ing wept.

Last week one of my items sold at 11.50pm on Monday. I posted it Tuesday morning, and on Wednesday morning the buyer raised a late delivery dispute!

They were convinced that the 2-3 days dispatch time on the listing meant delivered in 2-3 days. Idiot.

Then as soon as it turned up (Thursday) they then tried to negotiate a partial refund, threatening that they'd put in a not as described dispute if I didn't.

I told them to just send it back to me for a full refund. Funnily enough they then decided it was fine.

Thanks, but I have no button for that either. All that appears above the description. Unless he means the 'more..' at the end of the 'Condition' paragraph, which just goes to the description anyway?

About this item is on mobiles, much easier than getting the computer out and you can answer questions straight away, unless you're in the shower or otherwise engaged.

After recent bitter experiences and not to mention frankly daylight robbery levels of fees from eBay I’ve barred myself from using it again.

I’ve met loads of people in my lifetime and 99% of them are reasonable, fair, honest and considerate, or at the very least some of the above. Sadly the remaining 1% all have eBay accounts and just live to screw everyone they can over just because they can.

P-jay, I know what you mean, umpteen % on fees is painful, but I sometimes get £1 max fee deals. As for that 1% of people, I've seen a guy selling a used hope stem cap for £9, ridiculous when you can get a brand new one in various colours with coloured bolt for that. Who buys from these people selling second hand goods for more than chainreaction sells new.

I don't know, sometimes I thnk the red mist just sets in at the end of an auction. I've sold s/h forks for more than CRC has them in stock for. Same with a few other things.

I can (just about) understand it on an auction but you're right, you see buy-it-nows for crazy prices.

And it's the people who don't understand the difference from 'new' and 'used' that get me. Using for only 50 miles makes it used, not new.

i don't find it painful at all, I see it as good value. Selling items quickly and easily for the best price I could get so am happy to pay the auction provider just as I would do if I sold my items in a real auction house.

From "daylight robbery" to "Good value". There's always one contrary mary, happy to pay ebay fee's, come on, really, if so there's a village missing you. "prawn cracker"

Yes it is good value for an auction and transaction service, especially considering the user base I am open to when selling. The extra I get for my items easily outweighs the fees.
I too have sold used items for more than they cost me to buy new, where else would I get anyway near those prices?

If you don't see that value then don't use it, nobody will miss you - well apart from that village maybe...

eBay selling fees are great value I now only lost when it’s £1 an item max fee offers, usually once a month, just remember to keep on checking offers and relist after accepting the latest offer, as I forgot a few months back and got stung for £27, 10% fees on 3 items that would have been £3 otherwise

Yep, good tip. Draft up all your listings and then submit on day of max fee which makes it incredible value.

Don't think kerley got the village idiot reference or the Keith lemon's david dickinson one.
Must admit the fees do sting when selling bikes or anything over a grand, especially when you have to take an offer just to get rid.

I really resent ebay fees - must pay more attention to the £1 max fee offers. However, I've tried quite hard to sell items on relevant forums and the like, and get almost no interest. I recently sold off most of my homebrewing equipment. I got nothing on a homebrew forum for months, and half of it sold within a week of putting it on ebay. For whatever reason, that's where all the buyers are.

10% in fees is OK when you get at least 10% higher sale prices. Weak pound means lots of my stuff goes overseas and the global seller program (you ship to a UK centre, they re-ship dealing with custom etc) makes that super easy.

Have had a fair few idiots recently though. Winner of a fork didn’t realise it was boost despite saying that in title, description and photos showing exact axle spec. Mostly just do an unpaid item case, they get a black mark, you get the fees back. It just adds a couple of weeks to the process.

Honestly though, people in general are pretty stupid. I had a guy yesterday insisting that the hottest day on record in the UK was 110 deg C. I pointed out that he probably meant deg F, but he wasn't having it at all. Maybe he had just boiled his brain?

the trials and tribulations of ebay. I use it, but I hate it.

Luckily when I sell things I always go in with the opinion that it has zero value. I have had my use from it, so I either sell it for whatever I can get, or it sits in my garage getting dusty.

That way I never get disappointed with what things sell for and am quite often surprised.

recently I sold a bunch of old football shirts I had in a storage box. One particular Swansea City shirt sold for £127!!! I got around £500 for all 10 of them.

But as many have posted, the number of retarded questions is incredible. I usually reply with the answer but also point out that info is in the listing. And again, as stated people want it in their hands two minutes after the auction ends.

And don't get me started on postage fee's.... i try and be fair, but everyone thinks the bubble wrap, cardboard boxes, jiffy bags, packing tape etc etc are free and I have an endless supply of them....

Maybe I shouldn't have just thrown away a dozen or more F1 team shirts then.....

Nothing to get, calling me an idiot for not having a problem with a 10% fee for selling on the most used selling platform (and therefore getting me more than 10% extra on selling price) is uncalled for. If you don't want to pay 10% don't use it, the 10% shouldn't come as a surprise.

As for people asking stupid questions, I typically just block them and then send a sarcastic reply. In my many years of using eBay I have never found that a person asking a stupid question has ever bough the item, they are generally time wasters.

Sorry Kerley, I was only joking, smiley faces don't seem to work on here.
Total knobs on ebay have driven me to the brink this past month, I've even pulled an item just to keep my sanity. We can all be a bit too sensitive or insensitive at times.

I had a long conversation with a potential buyer that was determined that I'd use *his* courier link to ship a laptop. Er, no thanks. He was adamant that I could ship it for much less, yet failed to prove that it could be done with the value I expected the item would have. He ultimately started saying "others may be happy to pay £xx for shipping, but I wouldn't" then denied he would be causing problems if he won the item. Just sounded like trouble, and as above with @robo89 I ended up declining his bid. Got less - possibly - but it was freaking me out and making me really anxious when all I wanted was an easy transaction.

Fees are not ideal, but auction houses charge even more, and I can't easily get to the sort of s/h shops where I could sell the stuff. The other year sold a heap of my dads old model train collection ad even after fees was quite a happy man.

No problem, not always easy to tell when joking on a forum.
As for total knobs on eBay, yes it is full of them. Anyone that asks anything silly is added to my blocked list as I want to avoid as much hassle as possible. Overall it has been fairly good over the last 15+ years though and £10,000s of stuff sold.
