Not got on (middle aged, low skill, not brave) with my nice Specialized BMX so thinking about trading it on for a 26” jump (but there won’t really be jumping) pump track bike.
I’m 6ft2 but assume smaller frame (16-18”) is preferred. What about forks? Any cheap frames spotted for sale as a starting point? Stealthy ad - anything dusty in the shed/garage? Don’t mind the cosmetic condition as quite fancied a raw frame anyway.
Any favourites? DMR trailstar? Coil fork or air?
Thanks
Great excuse to get some old bombers
Got z150s on mine !
Kona Cowan, went for a large at 5'8 I should probably have got a medium, it's fun on a dh track but harder work on the jumps than it should be, I am using DH tyres that weigh a tonne tho !
Any excuse for bombers!
Come on STW...find me a frame!

Yes, short frames pump better. And in general you're looking for nimble, not stable.
What about forks?
Rigid is best unless you're doing big jumps. I used to have some old bombers that would lock down to about 30mm travel which was ideal for taking the sting out of landings without sapping any momentum.

Usual suspects on ebay, trailstars and specialized p1's are cheap. You might want a 16" hardtail as you're taller than average, but that would still be long by jump bike standards.
Mine, picked the frame up for £100 thinking it would suit my OH but she didn't like it, so then sat in my shed for years, and the rest is mostly what was on my Pitch (forks are spaced down to 90mm) and is now worthless as 26" is definitely dead. Actual cost to build it was therefore about £2.50 for a bag of bolts!

if you are not at the level of jumping then pretty much any old HT bike will do with the saddle down.
i'll happy ride a pump track on my rigid specific thing or my larger HT mtb. i'll jump them both. its just the knobblies on the HT feel a bit weird carving hard on teh tarmac turns (but you wont be doing this if you are not going fast enough to be jumping). the rigid is terrifyingly fast and brutal on messy landings.
i`m 6ft and my HT is a large ( i think ) with 160 forks. my rigid BMix is teeny
Thanks all.
Pinkbike being checked!
This would be ideal, I recently watched it tick over unsold and get relisted… would have been a Billy Bargain but a bit too far for me to collect:

Quite like that one Bez. Looks like it might weigh a metric tonne though?
What did it ‘not sell’ for previously?
You can do better than that stinker. What's your budget?
Budget is what ever I get for my BMX plus a few other spares. Maybe £200.
Only fancy a mess around project and ride.
Cheers

I used to have one (mine was 17", that one looks like a 15" at a guess), the frame wasn't heavy at all; obviously it's going to depend on what you build it up with. At one point I had some BMX-style 3pc cranks on mine which made it weigh as much as the moon, but most of the time it wasn't what I'd call heavy. Haven't looked in detail at the spec of that one. And it didn't sell for the same price, £75.
Wanna buy a sidekick?
i had a sunn bmix for mucking about on the pump track
sold it when i realised it's fun for about 15 minutes unless there's a group of you.
Last summer I bought a full mk1 Santa Cruz Chameleon for £100. Was a right mish mash of parts, Z1s that didn't move etc.
Just finished a little rebuild over xmas - dual ply Minions gone in favour of skinwall Schwalbe Table Tops, gears and E13 chain device gone in favour of SS, 24Seven bar/stem/boat anchor gone in favour of a Thomson X4 and 780mm Nukeproof bar and some DMR V8 placcy pedals drafted in in place of the breeze block Bontrager pedals that were on it. Still have plans to change the RF Evolve DH cranks to some XTs or something but its a shed load lighter now. Might go and give it a rip around LUBP this weekend. Including new pedals, tyres, bars, used stem etc I'm into it for a fair chunk less than £200.
Wanna but another sidekick?
There's two Charge Blenders on Pinkbike. One for 100 and one for 150.
I'd buy one of them without hesitation. I used one for absolutely everything 10 years ago including the most amount of bmx track and dirt jumping I've ever done. Added bonus of gears for getting around with but the frame is a crap shape for pedalling. Perfect for thrashing though.
Plenty of old 4x veterans on eBay for that sort of money, worth checking scumtree as well.

Brilliant if you want an authentic BITD experience (read: ****ing heavy). I wouldn't bother with any post 2004 Zocchi or anything built for more than 130mm as the steerer tubes are ridiculous. Removable crowns even more so. You also pay a lot of scene tax for them whilst 26" straight steerer RS go for under a ton if you're prepared to do a service and seal change on Revs or Pikes. I'm a massive Marzocchi fanboi but refuse to pay the silly money the decent ones command these days.
I have a set of 20mm Trailblade 2's I'd sell on but you would need to check whatever frame you want to mount them on as they have been cut down to the point they would only fit my Trailstar with a low stack BMX stem.
This Transition in the classifieds looks totally amazing for you!

You would have to drop more on price I’m afraid Kayak!
Price dropped to 300. 👍
I've a Cro Mo Club Roost frame 24/26in with disk and v mounts and horizontal dropouts £50 posted.
Thanks kayak but will give it a miss. Lovely bike though.
Thanks for the spot. Both old adverts from last year so sadly I doubt either still exist. 👍🏻
Let me get back to you as just discussing with other chap.
I’m still on the hunt. Thanks for the offers so far. I’m a picky bugger.
Anything else gathering dust and needs TLC guys?
Thanks
