Good Morning All I just wanted some advice on selling a bike is it best to split up or just sell as whole, bike has a good group set Sram XX1 1x12 & Fox 32 Kashmina Coated fork.
Also I presume its best to use multiple sites ie Ebay, Singletrack, Pinbike etc or am I incorrect.
Any advice would be most appreciated.
Just my opinion but..
Breaking a bike get you most total value but is a bit of a pain so i never bother and just sell whole thing.
You'll get a fair bit more money on ebay BUT they take their 10% plus paypal takes a slice as well. You'll need to be able to post though to get the best price
If your selling on singletrack you will have less muppets to deal with but it will only sell if you put it up for a fair (i.e. cheap) price.
I just go down the ebay route
You might usually get more for parts (debatable for 26in though), but demand for complete secondhand bikes is at an all time high now - so I'd sell complete on eBay personally.
Preferably with a £1 final value fee offer.
Based on my recent experience, you might want to try Facebook Markeplace first. It'll cost you nothing apart from a bit of time and as long as you accept cash in hand low risk.
I got £300 quid for a reasonably well used 8 year old Lapierre. Agreed, delivered, (I thought it better than have someone unknown coming and scoping out my shed) and paid within an hour. I suspect I could have got a fair bit more for it judging by the many, many replies I got and prices seem crazy high at the moment.
I recently sold a bike and it was advertised on PB, Ebay & STW. I got zero interest on STW, 400 views & 80 watchers on Ebay but only a couple offers.
Pinkbike came up trumps. Lots of serious interest and offers (with no messing). Sold at full asking price after 2 days.
Exact same experience at the end of last year too. STW classifieds is just dead since the update, Ebay tends to be tentative interest and PB has been more serious.
I sold a decent specced 2012 bike on Marketplace over the weekend. Thought I'd priced it about right but the demand was phenomenal, over 40 messages in less than half an hour. Ended up marking it as 'sale pending' as couldn't keep up with the requests. Sold to someone who drove 2 hours from Nottingham to collect at midnight on the same day (it went up for sale at 20.15!). I had people offering me more but I'd already made the deal and happy with the person who bought it.....important it goes to a good home right 🙂
Well i've now just posted my 26 Cotic Soul up on the classifieds (stealth ad) at a very competitive price, so let's see how that goes shall we?
Never used Ebay myself only sold the odd bike locally and all the rest via STW sold 3 this month nice people you do get some complete tossers but thats life does seem you get more for them on ebay so they say as said above breaking is a pain plus you may take a long time to get rid of it all.
doris1`s experience sounds exactly mine. I'd definately try that route again.
Definitely a good time to sell, as has been said splitting may get a bit more money, but is more hassle and time consuming, I put mine on here, eBay and Gumtree, and it sold the same day on eBay, Gumtree seemed the worst, lots of “is the bike still available mate” 10 mins after listing, and questions on how many gears and suspension, despite being clearly listed (and photographed) as a ridged singlespeed!.
I recently used here, eBay and marketplace to sell an escapade. Got lots of interest on eBay and marketplace within the hour. It sold within a few hrs and I posted it the next day. I got 60% of what I paid for it 5 yrs ago and it was pretty much original spec with it needing a new bb soon.
I did get stung on eBay as I’d set a reserve and pulled the ad and put a new one back up as I changed the reserve price and they’ve charged me twice even though I sold it via marketplace at full price and closed the ad on eBay. I thought it was free listings - didn’t check the small print and never thought removing the ad and reposting it would mean I got charged twice! Tried to call them but I just can’t get through and chat seems to hang.
