[Closed] Selling a bike you love....

I guess most of us have some sort of "Bike Development Plan"

😯 If I only I could be that organised.

Its only a mental list in my case. Working out what the next little tweak will be (or big one when something breaks and needs an replacement/upgrade)

I had to sell my Blur a few years ago. It was that or get divorced. It hardly got ridden, but was a thing of wonder and beauty and inspired lust and envy in other riders. It went to a good home, via this forum, to a chap who travelled all the way up from London by train to collect. My lad would have been 5-6 at the time, went to the station with me to watch trains.

Even now, when I see a black old version Blur I have to check it's not mine. My lad is now old enough to tease me about loving that bike.

Should have got the divorce instead...... 🙄

Not really... I have the best bike I can realistically buy within a budget of sub £4000, so it's the bike I have. I can't comprehend spending more than that.

i'm selling my Dh bike.

that wasn't an easy thing to type, but i hardly (read : never) use it, and i need to repay the savings for my new sensible full-bouncer.

Sold my "that blue" 456 a few years ago. It was battered and had carried my fat ass up and down the land. Loved that bike. 🙁

Tough one.

When the rescession first bit, I had a pay cut (construction firm so was lucky not to get my P45) which came at the same time as my car needing a load of money spent on it. I made the choice to get rid of one bike...my beloved Santa Cruz Chameleon.

I kept my equally loved Solid Flair whish wasn't very pracitical as my one bike. I should have kept the Cham and ditched the bouncy bike.

I ended up realising that the Flair wasn't the answer even though I was riding loads of DH stuff at the time. My next moved to a Patriot 66 as a do everything bikes was wrong - I hated that bike so much that I lost interest in bikes and riding for a while.

Whatever you do, make a choice that you can live with. It's silly but you do / can get attached to bikes.

i was going to sell my full sus frame until i saw what they were going for on fleabay :-(. It would cost me a fortune to replace with something modern, definately a keeper now, even if it doesn't get used enough (ever).

I keep toying with the idea of selling my P20, a bike I vowed never to sell, but it never gets used. It can still make me smile and it's beautiful to ride, but most of the time it's just sitting in the garage. If i do sell it, it will be for a price I want to sell it for, if it doesn't sell, I'll keep it

I sold my Giant NRS frame for bugger all a year or two back.

Wish I'd kept it now, even if it was only to hang on the shed wall.

only sold one bike, rest have broken, been stolen or stashed in the attic/shed. My pompino went to someone on here. Kinda miss it, a road geared SS is fun, but it was atleast replaced with something slightly different and better in a different way.

Bike development plan? I think all my bikes have "that (list of) part(s) would be good" aspirations as time money and bargain hunting/classifieds allows, but it's just slightly nicer gear as opposed to a "project"

Contemplating selling the Flying Banana Kiddyback tandem. Kids are now teens and it is only ridden with nieces and nephews and neighbors children.

It has brought more smiles than any other riding, but the reality is that I need the space for other bikes. I will be sad to see it go.

I feel for you. Every bike has it's day though. In a similar situation with a couple of lovelies for sale, a Cotic Soda and a Merlin Works 4. Which one or both just cannot make my mind up.

I still miss my Trailstar several years on but my 456 is reasonable replacement, not quite the same but near enough.

Getting rid of the Beltdrive A? I've always liked the idea of that bike, but doubt I would really be able to live with it or afford to buy it right now... How much you after for it?

I loved my Soul and miss it but I knew moving it on would let me get something I'd probably love more. Got to look at the ups and downs.

I am trying to sell my chameleon frame which I said I would never do, but as I have become more broken I just cant ride it. one of the best bikes I have ever owned and, as someone said in another thread, stiffer than ron Jeremy on Viagra!!!

I was faced with the prospect of selling my Soul last year.. but was pretty sad about it..

My first step in the mourning cycle was that I advertised it for sale as a complete bike at a price that no-one was interested in..
Then I broke it up for parts and advertised [i]them[/i] at a price no-one was interested in..

Then I gathered the parts for a cheap tip bike build and put the Soul in the attic..

I have a lovely F700 from 2000-1 still going strong. Only the Frame and front mech are left from the originally purchased bike.
I can't imagine ever getting rid of this bike.

Sold my Soul only because I was between sizes and couldn't fit it well enough...but the ride was good and wasn't sure I could replicate the comfiness on anything else. Saved up and got a ti frame that is the perfect size and rides even better IMO. Sometimes you have to replace the things you love in order to find something even better...just don't tell the wife I said that 😉

Or should I keep them and wait until I've got more money and more space?

Honestly? I think you have to weigh the pros and cons, and then go from there.

Also, something may not sell for a price you feel comfortable with, which may be God's way of telling you something. I speak from experience here. 🙂

(I talked someone out of buying my for sale frame last week, because it really wouldn't have been right for him. It should go to a home where it will be used for its intended purpose)

I've just put my Klein Attitude frame into storage in the attic. It was my first proper mountain bike, so I'm very attached to it. But, as time went on, it got more and more scratched, so I stopped using it until time and finances allow me to get a respray and rebuild it back into its former glory.

Either that, or I'll place the frame in a glass case and hang it on the wall. I could never dream of selling it.

A daft one to miss, but I sold an Inbred a while ago. When I was then considering buying it back it got stolen from the chap I sold it to. Sad times.

I'm going through this situation at the mo. I love the Hummer, but needs must as it is said and I have to get funds together for the relocation later this summer.

It has taken me ages to come to the inevitable conclusion but once I made the decision, it's been easier.

I'll still miss it though as and when it sells.

Pretty much the position I'm in with a Brodie Holeshot. It's an epic frame, but the time is right at the moment.

Bizarrely I'm having more success selling the kit hanging on it than the frame itself...

^^^ no luck selling the frame? They're gorgeous...tried to get one before my current ti frame.

Lots of interest but no-one's actually pressed the button, so to speak.

I'm not too fussed - I have the kit to keep it built and still really, really enjoy riding it - it's properly fun. 😀

It's more that I need to consolidate and rationalise the bike collection (like the OP) and I'm riding the suss bike more in the little time I'm getting to actually ride at the moment.

I'm selling my motorbike, proper love that but it does less than 300 miles a year.

I'd love to know what your plans are since you manage to just about beat me to every idea I have. I'd be very tempted to make you an offer on the A if I didn’t also have development plans.

Bit of an update. I've decided to put the Ritchey up for sale. Even the wife says to keep it!!

As above, also with dynamo front hub, built on wide rims for potential 29+ action.

And a Nicolai Helius FR to satisfy my desire for riding steeper, rougher and cheekier trails in the Lakes.

Neither of which are my ultimate plan. If i'm happy with the El Mar, i may commission a belt-drive ti version, and the nic will last until I can afford a Pinion version. But that could change...

Not yet but this year I will have a clear out of frames and parts.
Tear will be shed no doubt. One thing tho, the Caldera frame isn't going anywhere.

Currently toying with moving on my beloved mark 1 Nomad, I've had it from new and the only original part it the frame itself, but the reality is it only gets 5 days use a year (in the alps) and I'm not going this year 🙁 So it sits there, looking pretty.

Space and wife insist 1 in 1 out, so if I want a winter roadie it has to go 🙁

I very much regret selling my first ever proper BMX. It was so good, Federal Division 21", I've never found anything quite as nice.
