I know..old school. Due to divorce I need to sell my Cotic BFe 26er. The thing is it's been sat unused for 18 months but has some brand new bits (Hope wheels, Fox Forks, drivetrain). Best to split or sell complete?
Possibly worth more split, but depending on frame size, small 26ers can make great first "big" bikes for kids*, and if you split, some doting dad may want parts to bling his darling daughter's bike (yes, I did!)
*A mate has just built up a lovely 26" BFe for his wife
PLenty of takers for a decent bike like that I would guess - smaller 26er frames are popular with kids moving up to their first mountain bike, and there's still appetite for fun, messing around 26er bikes like the BFe in general. A 26er XC bike would be harder to shift. Advertise is complete for a sensible price and see what happens.
Yeah, I may just stick it on eBay at a good price to see if it goes. (It's a medium frame)
I've just split my Mk3 Soul as there was not enough interest in the bike
I've struggled to sell my top notch 2007 XC FS frame.
I was worried about selling my 575 - but just got a fairly decent price for it on eBay. Few stupid offers, then bing! someone paid the asking price about 10 minutes ago!
So yeah, eBay priced for what you want for it, with the 'offers' option is best.
Ha. I'm trying to rebuild my old 26er to get back into trail biking and looking for parts for it as I'm a fan of 26". (Not the best bike ever, the rebuild is a discussion for another time perhaps) Thanks to your post, I just had a look at the Cotic site and have seen they're doing a demo day down the road from me this weekend... Damn you.
@monkeymax - i have just stripped some parts from my 26er and have various bitz to sell...tubeless wheelset on stan's rims with superstar ti hubs and sapim cx-ray spokes, fox kashima fork, sram XO 2 x 10 groupset c/w cranks; also torq team kona kula watt frame.
If any interest, let me know.
I'm in the same boat. Just bought an Enduro in 650b and can't make up my mind whether to sell my 26 inch Stumpy Evo?
My sensible side is saying sell it while you can still get something for it. My not so sensible side is saying keep it for as spare because it's still a great bike.
What to do?
IME you'll get far more on eBay by splitting it. Parts put on as auctions, for the frame decide on a reasonable fixed price and leave it on there inviting offers. Someone will take it eventually.
You'll maybe get more for it parted out, but then you have to consider how much of your time/effort that will take up: Having to do multiple listings and posting each part, larger items like wheels and frames can be a bit of a faff and then there are the chancers wanting spurious discounts for imagined faults or trying to low ball you.
If the assembled bike is in good order, I'd be tempted to just list the whole thing (for local collection) and save yourself some of the ball-ache of flogging lots of stuff online. Plus if you part it out you're bound to end up keeping odd little things that don't sell or "Might come in handy" that just end up cluttering up the garage.
^^ that was my reasoning. Packaging and posting stuff is a pain in the arse, so one big courier job suits me. (Better collected by the buyer, of course.)
Also listing multiple items... multiple fees... Paypal already nicked the cost of the courier out of my sale.
Nah, see if you can sell whole bike first.
I sold my 26 on Pinkbike - no fees!
How much would you be looking for for the whole bike?
Have you tried the Steel is Real FB group ?
