[Closed] Selling a 2012 full suspension bike...whole or split (not a stealth ad!)

I won't mention the make or model so it's not an advert. I'm just after peoples opinions on how to get the best return on selling a bike.

It is a mid range full sus bike from 2012 from a brand that is well known but not mainstream.  Well used but presentable. No top end parts, just reliable stuff that works and can be replaced easily,

It would make a good bike for someone full-sus curious, maybe for a keen teenager (it's a medium).

I was planning on keeping it until me son was big enough for it but space and funds are more important!

I have no idea what it's worth as a whole.

Do I split it and try and sell frame and shock, forks, dropper, brakes, cranks, wheels etc separately on here or bung it on ebay as a whole ans see where the market prices it?

The conventional wisdom is that you'll get more for it if you split it, but I'm not sure that's the case with so many different standards these days. There is a good chance that you'd be left with some bits that wouldn't sell. Also, you only make more if you assume that the extra time you spend stripping it and selling bits separately has no value.  Personally, I'd stick it on here with a price at the lower end of your expectations and if it doesn't sell in a week or two either drop the price or bung it on ebay.

What size and model? I am after a larger-than-16" Specialized....for growing 13 year old...

I’d agree. If the bike is fully current standards/preferences compliant then it’s a big pile of desirable parts that should sell for more independently so long as you make sure the frame goes early.

The older the bike, the more likely it has bits on it that will appeal to a limited audience running cheaper bikes and thus looking for better bargains.  2012 is getting on a bit, it’s probably 26er, could well be straight steerer etc.  I’d be inclined to sell such a bike as a whole unless there were more valuable items like currently compatible Hope, posh drivetrains etc when I’d probably sell them separately and maybe fit some spares I had around. A set of E4’s for example isn’t going to make much difference other than speed of sale to a six/seven year old bike sale-wise.

Thanks for the replies. It's a mish mash of standards. Tapered forks but 9mm QR. 26" wheels. Non boost rear end but dropouts can be changed from current QR to 142x12mm.
