I know it is supposed to be easy, but easy for someone who is technically competent or easy full stop?

It's easy full stop. Full the destructions down off the interweb and follow exactly. I did mine, they were easy and I know nowt about fork innards.

If you can bore a 32mm hole in a bit of 4"x 2" softwood, then cut it in half through the hole, you can use the two bits to grip the fork lower, keep the wheel handy as reclamping the fork leg on to the axle gives extra leverage for removing the damper & I found replacing the 5wt oil with 7.5wt made the fork more plush under my 15 stones!
