I've been using Niterider Lumina lights for the past few years but they only seem to last about 18 months before something goes wrong with them. I'm looking to replace the latest one as the brightness changes constantly, then comes back if I go over a bump. I use them as my main commuting light for riding along a dark canal path, mounted to the bars, and as my helmet light for mountain biking with a more powerful light on the bars.

Can anyone recommend a self contained light (i.e. the battery is part of the light) of no less than 800 lumens that will either come with a helmet and bar mount or has an easy to remove rubber strap? Max price is £50. I was considering Chinese lights but they all seem to come with plastic clamps that you can't buy spares of rather than rubber straps, and none seem to come with helmet mounts. Open to recommendations, though.

have a look at the bikehut 1600 thread... seems to be well thought of. Don't think it has a helmet fitment unless you use a gopro mount.

C&B Seen City Slicker - more than enough light for off road.

Luke, got me one of these a week ago -

https://gb.lightmalls.com/biking-max-2000lm-bike-light-2-xml-t6-led-headlight-built-in-6000mah-rechargeable-battery-2-handlebar-mount-bicycle-light

Only used it once so far, but it seems good. Less than £22 delivered and arrived in about 10 days. The mount is the slide clip type, but there’s also an extra screw hole that looks very GoPro mountable. Drop me a pm if you want to know more...

That link took up too much room to keep typing above! Was also going to say the battery has never run out on me on a ride (most I’ve done is 2 hours probably) and I tend to run it on full power a lot of the time. It’s light and small so you don’t notice to on the helmet. Comes with a solid bar mount and Moon sell a mount to attach it to a go pro helmet mount for about a fiver.

USB charges from a normal lead in a few hours and so far it’s been reliable. Since having it I was so impressed I’ve got a Moon Vortex (only 600 lumens and not as bright) and Meteor X auto on the bars of my road bike and a Moon Nebula on the back.

I thought the more powerful moon lights that are all in one are too big for off road use though so have a few other makes - Ryder / Brite-R / Torchy.

Spend more and get an Exposure if you want something to last.  Will probably be cheaper in the long run.

I had the evolva. It was nice, but went on the blink. I may have been unlucky. Now

using Lezyne 1500i that I picked up cheap from crc. Much better, but heavier.

The Evolva is a great light but I wouldn't use it as a helmet light.

I've got a torchy tbb fluxient torch for my helmet on an exposure mount which is spot on.

I'm not sure they are easily available now though.

Evolva works OK for me.  1-2 night rides per week.
