I've got some coil U turn Sektors (RL version with dual flow rebound upgrade) wound down to 100mm on a play bike. I'm considering whether it would be worth getting a set of Revelations (and fitting a 100mm airshaft) to replace them with. The frame is straight steerer and 26" wheel so the Rev's below are the best forks I can find. But I'm not sure whether the Rev's will actually be a better fork - anyone comment on the differences?

It’s going to be a different fork - lighter and air not coil.  The RCT3 damper isn’t bad.  Not having U turn would make a difference to some but if you aren’t feeling that then it doesn’t really matter (it’s probably princess and pea territory anyway).

What don’t you like about your Sektors that you’re hoping to upgrade away from?

The damping doesn't feel as good as on my Mattocs, or my old Lyriks. I don't use the U turn, just need something that will run around 100mm.

Really depends how much you’re prepared to spend on damper mods if you don’t like them then.  Assuming you’re fine with Air, minus the Debonair mod which would be sensible while changing air shaft, the RCT3 is still pretty much Rockshox state-of-the-art.  £500 plus mods is a lot to drop on the basis of secondhand opinions.  Really you need to ride something with the RCT3 damper which shouldn’t be too hard to find?

Very little difference apart from the obvious with the spring. It's basically the same chassis and the differences in the damper are pretty minimal with the changes you already made to the Sektor. Maybe consider something like a Splug in the Sektor, or even just an rct3 damper unit from a rev?

Just to be clear, the rct3 in that rev is not the same as the charger rct3 in newer rs forks.

There are some 100mm travel Yaris on Planet X for £233 just now.

yup, as above you've already closed most of the gap between the sektor and the rev. No matter what you do it won't feel as good as your old lyrik, because old lyriks are still one of the best forks ever made. You can make sektors/old revs work pretty damn well though with the right oil etc, it took me ages to get mine (coil-ised blackbox revs) working at their best but it was worth it

Thanks all, decided to stick with the Sektors. Part of the reason for enquiring was because I reckon that the rev's won't be around much longer in straight steerer version so I was panicking a bit. You want to see my stack of 26" tyres ;-).

Thanks, I'd be all over those if my frame could take a tapered steerer.

Care to share in a bit more detail what you did with them?

I was going to say that my pals old (2014 ish) Revs were miles better than my similar era Sektors but I don't know how your upgrade improves the fork so it might not be relevant.

Have you had a look at the better Suntour forks? I've tried a few that were better than my Sektors (which I didn't rate at all) and they still come in 26" straight steerer versions.

Otherwise, as much as you probably don't want to I'd be looking at changing frame. For the price of those Revs you could get some 650b Yari and have £250 left for a new frame. Add what you'd get for your current frame and you should easily be able to come in budget. Run your 26" wheels on the 650b frame if you have lots of stock.

No similar frame available really, hoping to stick with it for now. Having said I was sticking with the Sektors I've seen these on pinkbike, might be worth a punt to see how they compare especially as they look to have a proper 20mm axle
