Middle aged chiseled mountain biker who likes rides with a technical bent, seeks aesthetic beauty in a wild remote setting.

It is Torridon you seek - head for Inverness, turn left and left again!

Beinn a'Ghlo may distract you - she is a voluptous thing, and can be appreciated from either direction.

Funny that i was distracted by that very fine girth last week as i came down Glen tilt after a tour of the Cairngorms, she is on the radar.

Beinn a'Ghlo is good, not mega remote though.

For real remoteness Ben Macdui is pretty amazing- a big ride in, a big ride out (we did it over two days- Glen Feshie and Carn Ban Mhor to Aviemore, sleep, then up Cairngorm and over to Macdui). Excellent technical ride spoilt by distracting beautiful views!

If you want a fairly good selection of good Scottish mountains there are a few useful threads on here.

There's my five or so "summary" threads-

http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/2011-a-year-in-mountains

The bible for me is Sanny's now rather unwieldy thread here -

Ben Avon and it's neighbour are worth a look if you haven't already done them.

Lots of great suggestions from Sanny & Munro, without revisiting their threads,
Also consider:
Glen Isla, Bawhelps, Mayar(optional), Finalty, Tom Buidhe, Claise, Glas Maol and return on Monega Path.

Glen doll car park- Bachnagairn, Broad Cairn, Cairn Bannoch, t'Saggairt Mor, Callater descent, Tuirc, Claise, Tom Buidhe, Mayar, descend Kilbo. Epic, with 7 munro summits.

Lochnagar, clockwise from Braemar via Gelder Shiel.
Descend White Mounth and Callater way.

Beinn a Bhuird & Ben Avon from Invercauld.

Perhaps the ultimate in remote, but without the summits- Fisherfield crossing, Torridon.

If anyone spots summer coming, please let me know...

Saturday there, Ben MacDui certainly has a gsoh... teases you with a superb big mountain rocky descent to the lochan, down to the hut, and a nice relaxing and rideable (if seemingly never ending) Glen Derry. However, if you choose the route from Gledie burn up to Glen Feshie, holy moly, you're going to mutter a few curses along that 8-9kms! We couldn't truly enjoy the sublime Glen Feshie descent back home as we were truly spent, and the river crossings and vanishing paths only made us a little bit more broken!

Craig Meagaidh worth a fact-finding mission, Fergal? That is a fine mountain indeed - once you were up you've got an expansive plateau at your disposal.

Big day out that glasgowdan! Luckily when I've done Glen Geldie it's been pretty dry but did do it heading toward Blair Atholl once into a horrific headwind when it was very wet. It aged me!
