You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Ok built a Singlespeed from bits in the garage and love it.
But, everyone keeps banging on about 36:18 or 36:16 ratios.
All I had was a 42 front ring so opted for a 21 on the back.
Does it make a difference if the chain ring and cog are bigger as long as the ratio remains the same?
Running 175mm cranks if that makes any difference.
Cheers, Paul.
Makes no difference.
You will be very slightly more prone to catching the front ring on logs and the like, as it's bigger (but people with triples manage).
Slightly heavier, so you'll become awesome sooner.
There will be less wear on the drive train.

You'll be able to look up and see a squadron of pigs transporting some rocking horse 'leavings' across the sky.... 😉

Not a problem, I've been wearing cheesecloth shirts and flares since 1985.
Cheers for the info chaps.
