Surely with bike shops closing relatively frequently there should be many sets of tools bring sold off? eBay is tumblr weed territory
Anywhere else to look? #stealthad
I think people just hold onto them. I'm sure I have a load of tools for bottom brackets or suspension parts that don't fit any of my current bikes. I've been looking for a couple things recently and there has been nothing on eBay or at the jumbles. I've just committed to buying it new.
Normally a right place right time thing, or if you know somebody.
Some owners keep the tools if they sell up, means they can fix their own bikes at home. Also some people would rather keep them than sell them for a fraction of what they paid for them.
Some have gone to auction, same as stock (particularly if liquidated).
Some have been sold as job lots to somebody setting up a new shop or repair business.
Some are bought by employees/mates.
Some stuff comes up on gumtree/facebook/ebay, but not a lot.
Is a bike tech not like a car mechanic and is the owner of his/her own tools. So if a shop shuts, the techie looks for a job elsewhere/goes self employed, but obviously hangs on to his own tools? Or doesn't it work that way?
For light use, as in non daily use, can't new cheaper tools achieve the same as second hand quality tools that might actually be more expensive? When I see brands like X tools selling really good stuff for buttons, I am not sure the home mechanic needs much more.

Not in 90% of bike shops
Bike shops have shop tools.
Some mechanics might bring in a few of their own tools, eg nice allen keys.
