Right, I need road/tourer/CX bike that will take mudguards & a rack for the summer as I've agreed to take part in a a few (3 or 4)single day rides with a smallish group of occasional cyclists. Looking to do around 60 miles a day on nothing rougher or more technical than fireroad.

I have a couple of hardtails but would prefer a tourer so I can vary my riding position more than on my MTBa and also so I can fit a rack for spares/tools/food. Ideally I'd like a CX bike with rack mounts but not convinced I can do it for my budget.

Don't have a massive budget (£250 ish) and know that 2nd hand will be the best option.

So oh great and bountiful STW what would you recommend?

I have a 2005 kona sutra that sounds like just what you need.

Yes, its possible. For tourers, I'd look for something like Dawes or Raleigh. A few years ago, I got a Raleigh Royal for £250 (including rack, mudguard etc).

Worth a look at the CTC forum, its often good for this sort of thing.

Just get on Ebay.

You can find a bike at whatever price point you want to pay.

WHen I was looking for a CX stuff you could get some 1 year old stuff for that kind of money (obviously cheaper groupsets etc)
