Hi all,

Following on from the strong/enduro thread....

I only have the funds for one bike, and it will be replaced on average every 6 years...

I currently have a 2012 Five which has done really well but is definitely too short compared to more recent friend's bikes.

I really like the look of the new Five and the Stage 5 and 6 but I don't have the money for new.

However is it me, or has the failure rate gone up recently from Orange? That is making me worry about no warranty....

Would you part with 2-3k for a second hand bike that you want, or would you settle for something else new?

I'd buy new in a 30-40% off sale from whatever retailer. Which is exactly what i did with my T-130. I bought from Winstanleys as it was an older model, for £1300 instead of £2000.

I'd go with what Weeksy said... but failing that Orange have some fully refurbed ex-demo bikes.

I don't know the details over warranty etc. (as although my kid was urging me to buy one I had no intention) but I was sat next to them packing away at Cannop yesterday ... They had two 354's at about 2k.... with new components.

Personally I wouldn't want to spend that amount of money on 2nd hand. I've bought 2nd hand cheaper hardtails, but they've generally been used as commuters by people and in very good condition. An enduro bike may have had a tougher life, so I'd personally want a level of comfort (warranty) should the worst happen.

I'd be looking at older models being sold off cheaper, unlikely to get an Orange, but I'd put up with that for a bit of peace of mind.

As above, if I had £2k, I would buy new in the sales.

Above this it is diminishing returns - the swap to a newer geometry is the main reason for you swap it seems, so this is the big gain.

£1k bought my son a 2016 Radon Swoop 150 - Pikes, Evol, Reverb, full XT, Crossmax'sand spare Superstar Alpine wheels, spare rotors, spare bearing set, spare pads and just serviced by local shop and TFTuned.  Amazing bike - but that is £1k, not £2-3k, so the warranty risk worth it IMO.

I’d buy this...

Well, wouldn’t, but I’d sell it for 2800...
