Mrs Mat has just bought a Gravel bike with pairs of mounting bolts towards the axle end of the seat stays, I can't figure out what they're for (GT e-Grade bolt) are they just bolt cage mounts? Surely nobody would want to mount bottles there? Hoping there's some cool new rack/mudguard standard I've not heard about akin to the Trek 1120 mount but my googling is throwing up nothing!

Yep - bottle cage mounts - more likely to be used for carrying small items of luggage in something like a Gorilla Cage.
I have 2 similar placed threaded holes above the dropouts.
They aren't rack mounts as they are there also and they face backwards not parallel to the axle. Smaller size than standard bottle cage bolts.
For the time being I have wound in 2 small bolts to keep the crap out of them until I find out what they could be used for.

Mounting a bottle on my Silk Road led to heel strikes. A small tool keg worked OK. However, this is the set up I ended up with; Stanley hip flask for a swift dram on the trail, mounted to a 3d printed dj deck. On the other seat stay I've got a mountain morph pump using its frame mount. Gives me a little more room in my frame bag....
