About to buy a 27.2mm (CRC @ £47) for my Genesis, tell my why I'm a buffoon for going with the obvious choice.

Must be light and strong, with a durable finish, but most importantly, have a seat clamp that's easily adjustable out on the trail and isn't made of cheese.

Ta!

The hope eternity posts are good but do come in a bit more expensive, £71

Just bought one of those myself. There really isn't anything close to it at that price. Full whack, you can argue a case for some other ones, but they're an absolute steal right now.

You might get a more comfy ride from a cheap carbon post, is the only drawback I can think of.

The classifieds on here are littered with thomson flogging.

People who are fickle and change bikes every week tend to offer bargain prices.

Bottom line, at that price, there isn't an alternative.

You could save £7 and get a Nuke Proof Warhead post, I'm running one on my Inbred at the moment, had if for a couple of months now and other than the height markings wearing off, still looks as-new.

I replaced my Thomson with a Ritchey WCS post, and I didn't miss it TBH. I found the two tiny bolts a PITA, much prefer the single big one approach for seatposts.

Also correct me if I'm wrong but have you heard of any failures? They are just simply the best out there - at any price - and if you want loose a bit of weight then get a Masterpiece if you have the money. I've had Easton EC90 and 70's and I still think the Elites are the best.

Lots of other choices out there, all work fine, many are better value.

Bit like BMWs.

I really liked the single bolt cantelever design on the Raceface posts. I had the evolve - very easy to adjust both the seat angle and position on the rails. The finish didn't hold up too great to the ammount of times I put it up and down but I'd rather have something that worked well than looked good. For £30 is was certainly value for money.

have a seat clamp that's easily adjustable out on the trail

Why, set it in the garage and leave it?

For me SDG I-Beam carbon, light and strong and pretty cheap.
