I am trying to resolve the infernal creak on the Arkrose.
I am sure it is seat related (standing on the pedals - stops it).
I just noticed the seat clamp is on the opposite way to all my mountain bikes i.e. the strap around of the clamp is over the slot in the frame as opposed to the gap in the clamp being over the gap in the frame.
Could this be the source of my misery? Or am I clutching at straws and it makes no difference?
Thanks
I always thought the strap should grip the gap in the frame and squeeze it closer. The pivot point of the lever the opposite side. Normally the gap in the frame is at the rear, the pivot point at the front of the bike. Seems to me that it would put less stress on the whole thing and keep the pivot out of the mud.
It also just looked right to me.
Oh, and I bet your noise is due to the saddle rails and clamps in the seat post. Take it apart, clean the grit and dirt and then reassemble it.
The right way round for any QR seatclamp is the way that doesn't catch your shorts. For bolted it makes no odds.
I always have them (thought it correct) with the frame slot and seat clamp slot aligned.
It doesn’t really matter but as a matter of course I've always preferred to have the clamp bolt towards the front to minimise the amount of spray and muck hitting it from the rear wheel if possible...
Didn't some Arkose frames have a known issue with slipping seatposts? How tight are you having to do the clamp up to stop the post slipping? Banana bolting-tight?
As above creak likely to be saddle or clamping parts.
Collar orientation doesn't cause creaks and doesn't matter.
I've always lined the slot in the clamp with the slot in the frame.

Yep - makes sense that the seat clamp will be more efficient that way round (to my non-engineer's mind, anyway)
The slot on my shreds at the front,so I put the lever at the front. It's a good idea to build em that way. Less dirt ingress.😁
Santa Cruz advises to line the slop of clamp with slot of frame
Worst saddle-related creak for me was the saddle rails where they slot into the plastic hull - they aren't really fixed in so they move slightly. You could try squirting some glue in, or just lube.
Thanks all I enjoyed the sound of silence only interrupted by bird song and nano on gravel during this mornings commute - well until I pulled the front brake reached Hammersmith
Not sure what the fix was turned the clamp so the forward facing slots aligned, copper slipped post, rails and clamp and silicone sprayed rail and seat joints - creak gone

Not sure what the fix was, turned the clamp so forward facing, slots aligned, copper slipped post, rails and clamp and silcone sprayed the join between the rails and the seat
