Due a bottle of sealant. whats the go-to these days?

currently using muc-off - ok, but not great. got it at discount so can't complain. now they are back to normal price i'd probably try something else again

peatys - wasn't impressed last time.
orange seal - the best i've came across so far, but hate the stringy mess it leaves, and the cost
stans - haven't used in about 5yrs. time to give it another try?

i very rarely get punctures, so its main use for me is to seal the tyre and stop leaks

also any recommendations on tyre worm things? using an extremely cheap >£5 setup, and would rather have something a little nicer now.

I only ever tried one other than stans. It was some orange stuff and stained everything it touched. Back on stans now as it does the job.

Check out Tyre Yogurt, https://www.tybikeproducts.com/  I converted to it on multiple bikes and it’s been faultless. I wouldn’t use a latex based sealant any more. For plugs, the Ryder capsule is cheap and cheerful Here the Sahmurai Sword system is very good but a bit spendy Here

Dunno what’s going on with the link fail up there 👆

Stans is still the benchmark, I'm sure there's other stuff out there that works too, but I've tried a few and they were all shite.

Bontrager, peatys and even stans race, back to stans I went.

I normally use Stan’s- works fine

I tried orange seal- works fine but stinks

I’ve bought a bottle of barbieri from on one. It’s half the price of the other two, but I’ve not tried it yet. It is£10 a liter the other two are £20 a liters

I'm tight. I water down OKO off-road/agricultural sealant.

So far it's sealed a good few punctures. They only downside is it does dry up fairly quickly, but it is easy to clean out as it seems to set less hard.

I tried the on-one stuff and found it awful. Other than that have only used Stans and never had any issues. Touch wood I have never had a puncture with it so it either works very well without me realising or I am very lucky!

I have only really had good results with Stans or Caffelatex. I am now keen to try the Slicy Banana Smoothy sealant since it is stocked locally to me and on paper should be similar constitution to the Stans, but smells a lot nicer 🙂

Continental Revo Seal is good but very spendy. Bottle needs a real good shake to disperse the sediment in it.

I'm reasonably happy with Orange Seal Endurance.

That tyre yogurt stuff sounds interesting, but 150ml per tyre?!

Orange Seal is expensive, dries out inside the tyre and covers it in a film of crap, and because it has dried out, there's nothing there to provide any sealing. Maybe if I used twice as much of it as other sealants, it might work, but that makes it even more expensive, my suspicion is I'd just end up with even more stringy mess inside the tyre.

Stan's just works.

I've recently switched to Caffelatex from Stans. I was mixing the Stans standard and enduro 50/50 (as recommended by the now defunct Next Day Tyres).

Switched as I ran out of both and fancied trying something different. So far seems to be holding up well and has sealed a couple of punctures.

I'm intrigued by the Banana Smoothy now!

I use caffe latex and have not had a puncture.

How often do people top up and remove their tyres to clean out the gunk.

Always used Stans on the MTB.
On the road bikes I use Schwalbe Doc Blue in the Schwalbes and Continental Revo in the Contis as they came in a package with the tyres. Both seem to work well, only had to use my Dynaplugs once and that was after the ride.

Ive used Stans, orange seal and caffe latex. I found stans and orange seal to dry unacceptably fast in the summer and Stans and orange seal are pretty expensive these days.

I took a punt on PlanetX magic milk, which I understand is formulated by Oko, and I've been really pleased. Its rather more viscous than the latex types and I was dubious, but its been perfectly fine. Used it for about 14 months now and will continue to do so.

I've got a bottle of the OKO Offroad Sealant to try - how much water do you dilute it with?
Or maybe it needs diluting with something else so it doesn't dry up?

Tried Giants sealant which wasn't great now on Stans. It does the job.

I've gone back to Stans after trying a few alternatives (including Muc Off).

Is this is hi-fibre magic milk? I found it clogged valves up.

Giant sealant, which comes in a Stan's shaped bottle and is made by Stan's?

OKO works fine for me, but I've never used anything else. I let it down about 50/50 with water. It washes out reasonably easily.

I have a massive bottle of Caffelatex. I've only had one, pretty small puncture, which it didn't seal. It very effectively covered my bike with sealant though. And its a bugger to remove if you don't wipe it off immediately. When the massive bottle runs out, I'll probably switch to Stan's Race. I think particulates might help.

Maybe I'll try the OKO again with a bit of water, are you meaning the hi-fibre stuff?

Use Stans and Caffelatex. Found Stans Race not worth the extra money. Has anyone tried Slime?

The standard Agricultural OKO is the one I've been using. It's about £10 for a litre, which has lasted about 2 years so far ...

Is it definitely made by Stans? Even it is is, nothing to say they'll make it to the same formula - why would they?

Stans normal for me, after trying a few of the others mentioned here.

Did anyone try that FinishLine stuff that was meant to last forever?

Stan's repackage their sealant for a few different brands - see also Doc Blue (which has "Made by Stan's" on the label)

I've got a bottle of this :-

How much of the diluted solution do you typically use - i'm running 27.5 x 2.6 Maxxis tyres?

Gone back to Stans after Cafelatex too. Had the same...liquid sealant pissing all over my frame and legs...eventually half sealed. It doesn't have the blobs of latex stuff that plugs holes that Stans does, and it foams as the tyre spins round. I thought that was better for sidewall damage, but not so sure it leaves enough where it mostly matters. It was cheap for a big bottle though. Gone back to Stans...which seems to be the least ballache. Don't think the Mavic stuff that came with some Crossmax's has the balls in it either. Loads of punctures in the New Forest at the minute for some reason...just sloshing the stuff in now.

I switched from Stans to Cafe Latex as it was significantly cheaper at the time and had good reviews. Poor decision, I've found Cafe Latex seems to dry up much faster and certainly leaves a much worse mess in the tyre. Not sure if I had a bad bottle, but back on Stans now.

Not noticed a difference in flats between the two, Bikeradar did a reasonably fair test of different sealants so look that up rather than relying on the anecdotes on here (including mine) 🙂

Had the same mess inside the tyre too with the cafelatex. Impossible to get a layer of brown crud off that it dries to (on a new Ikon EXO 3C TR tyre).

It does last forever, it just doesn't seal holes very well.

I just got some Orange seal to seal a problem WTB Resolute. When it does dry up, can I top it up with Stans? Or Finishline that I need to do something with.

Oh, bugger.

Is it worth trying the liter bottle I’ve just bought?

I generally use what my LBS stocks, which is usually Halo Fibre Tech. No complaints with it i.e. no punctures in the last year on the two bikes that that stuff is in.

Another vote for the 1250ml bottles of that oko industrial sealant. Use schraeder valves, remove core, pop hose thing over said valve and shoot your load in. Works a treat👍
