Planning a summer holiday and there will be a day or two set aside to rent downhill bikes somewhere, so any recommendations for locations and/or specific hire shops? We'll be riding blues and reds but looking for the full lifts and downhill bike experience.
Possible dates span the week leading up to the WC in leogang, so I'd probably choose to avoid that.

Schladming looks like it might fit the bill, but I'm just looking at trail maps and guessing.

I went to the racing at Leogang last year & a lot of the tracks in the bikepark were close afterwards. I don't remember seeing many rental places in Leogang, but round the mountain in Saalbach there were tons.

Schladming looks awesome but I can't comment.

Solden had lots of rentals and is a bit more groomed and sanitised, long flowy trails mainly.

Serfaus had lots of rentals and is awesome for a couple of days. The bike park is small with a bit of everything and the long trails outside the park are epic.

Thanks, might also take a look at saalbach.
Solden looks fab, although that's probably going to end up too far from where we going this trip. I'll bank it for next time though!

Leogang/Saalbach/Hinterglemm/Kaprun are all the same lift pass.
There’s bike rental at the main Leogang Asitzbahn gondola at the WC finish line.

https://www.sportmitterer.at/en/

Plenty of enduro, DH and Freeride tracks
From the top you can ride over to Saalbach (not on a DH bike), takes about 30 to 40 minutes.
Saalbach/Hinterglemm is more enduro riding type than strictly DH, has the X-line though which is full on and has the big road gap at the bottom.
There’s loads of bike shops in Saalbach & Hinterglemm that do rental.

The Kitzsteinhorn glacier (Kaprun) is worth checking out for a day, long descent

https://www.kitzsteinhorn.at/en/summer/kitzsteinhorn/mountainbike

I’ll probably be there at that time so send me a message if you want to hook up.

Keeping an eye on this as Austria is at the start of our tour at the end of June and into July..
Tunnel is booked, and a good idea of route, Austria Italy and Switzerland. Just need to find some campsites/stop offs to pull it all together

@Tracey

You can camp in the Leogang car park although it will be chocka WC weekend. Good facilities there though.
A great location would be Seecamp ( https://www.seecamp.at/) right on the lake at Zell Am See. In theory you could ride up the valley on your e-bikes to Saalbach from there, it would take around 50 minutes in turbo as it’s slightly uphill.
Failing that there’s loads of parking there.

Thanks for that

We have timed our arrival for after the WC weekend with a view to riding there and Saalbach and then taking in some more stuff before a bit of time in Italy

@Tracey. Another option is this campsite in Fieberbrunn https://tirol-camp.at/ which is direct on at the cable car station. It’s part of the Leogang and Saalbach area.

@Tracey, I spent 3 nights parked on the driveway of a derelict house on the edge of Leogang last year! always an option if you can't find anything else.

For stop offs on the way I want to go to Green Hill & Geisskopf.

Van is geared up for off grid but it's always nice to have a few creature comforts if available 😀

Sight hijack - Anywhere in Germany people would recommend?

Thinking of a road trip this summer along the lines of Morzine, Pila, Schladming. So any tips on places to ride? Especially between Schladming and Calais.

Paganella. Top.

Kronplatz. Couple of days off fun.

Serfaus. 👍

Davos. Wild trails. 👍

Saalbach. A bit Meh, but that was ~8 years ago I was last there. The stopped the joker card so never went back.

Geiskopf is small and a slow Single lift... I say that despite my mates running the hut the other side of the mountain. Spicak is a better bet, but neither are really on the way to the alps.

Forgot the main Q....

Bike parks in Bavaria are shit. Samerberg Meh. Oberammergau. Meh.

Super slow lifts, chair and T-bat respectively. <300m vertical. Expensive.

Lenggries. Forget it.

Geiskopf... Nice flow line. Shit lift... Single chair and slow.
