I've not been able to find any map to show the diversion so wondered if anyone had ridden around there in the last couple of days and whether the promised diversion signs are in place. I'm hoping to ride from Eastbourne on Saturday or Sunday, depending on what the wind is doing.

Doesn't say much other than will be diverted around perimeter.

There's a boundary fence that is set back from the A272 at that point, giving a buffer zone they'll use.

If you heading west bound, I suspect the diversion will start at the Rodfield Lane crossing, grid ref SU 55275 28054.

Bringing you on a southerly loop north of the A272 up to Cheesefoot Head.

It'll be tough under wheel as there will be no defined track over the farmland.

Alternative is up the A272, it's a quick road, relatively we'll sighted but won't be fun as it's a bit of a drag up.

I'd be tempted to divert at SU 56338 26016 - though I think there's a cafe at Holden Farm, just before you hit the A272.

Thanks moff that's really helpful, The A272 is a road I tend to try to avoid at this end but it might make sense to use it. I'll check that grid reference out on the map to leave the SDW

If the diversion is around Rodfield Lane, you could descend most of Longwood and turn right into Featherbed Lane, which will be the reverse (a descent) of https://www.strava.com/segments/21061827 which then links up with https://www.strava.com/segments/704637 (that has a gate not long after the climb starts). This gets you next to the A472 very close to Cheesefoot Head, where you can then descend the reverse of https://www.strava.com/segments/15433173 to get to Chilcomb and on to the finish at Winchester.

I should say I've not intentionally ridden much of the SDW at all, but I've ridden down Featherbed and up that climb to near Cheesefoot on my fatbike and recently of my egravel (awful impromptu decision, tyres were far too inflated to ride it relatively quickly, especially when approaching sunset and it had been years since my previous visit).

Thanks nObOdyOfthegOat I've found yours's and moff's suggestions on the map so I shouldn't have any issues. I knew I was going to run into it, last time I rode it I did it in July and they were already setting up the fences. Doesn't look to add much if any distance on which will definitely be a good thing by then!

@moff & @n0b0dy0ftheg0at thanks again to both of you, I rode it yesterday and followed the route you'd suggested moff and it worked well. Total distance was slightly further than last time I did it but I was 2 hours under that time and beat 12 hours which I was hoping I might be able to do if all went well
