Wondering if anyone is using the SDG I-beam seatpost system here can give me some advice, ....before I take it out the back and smash it off the wall in a seetheing rage 👿
Anyway, just got an SBG I-beam seatpost/saddle and after a fairly modest tightening (definitely not what i think would be anything close to overtightened) of the seat clamp thing(not the seatpost clamp, I mean the i-beam clamp that holds the saddle) , the 2 clamp parts on the sides seam seized solid on the clamp.
Even with the bolt removed, they seem well and truly stuck to the centre part of the clamp with no give at all. From what I can tell they should just fall straight off, - they did when I got it and loosened the bolt. Have tried to pry them with a screwdriver and no luck. It feels like the allow is soft or sticky somehow and the 2 side parts are stuck/bonded to the centre of the clamp.
I had to tap the saddle out from the clamp along the centre rail with a hammer and it came out, - but the clamps just seem stuck solid.
If anyone has had the same problem, - and there's a knack let me know.
I actually, have another i-beam seatpost also that I got as part of an offer (that I don't want because its a layback). I gave the bolt on that one a pretty gentle tighten, and now that too is stuck.
So, I'm beginning to wonder whether its a problem with the 2011 batch of clamps, or, - whether there is a knack to them that I'm not aware of.
Cheers
Twist the saddle to get it to pry apart?
They dont move easily onece clamped down on the saddle.
From plan view, whack the rear of the saddle from the left and the front of the saddle from the right to give it shock load twist type thingie.
Don't whack it too hard, they can be a bit delicate. I had an SDG I-Beam and the post split at the top - where the clamp is bonded into the tube - riding across a car park!
Do what FLV said. Whenever I'm adjusting an I-Beam I usually have to loosen the bolt up then give it a twist to pop it free of the clamp.
Oh dear!
I'm starting to not like this i-beam contraption very quickly.
I've pulled the saddle out already but might be able to work it back in.
Is this normal that the clamp gets stuck/seized like this? seemslike a royal pain in the a**se.
I've tried (with the bolt completely removed) to force the 2 sides of the clamp with a screwdriver to no avail.
It might need more leverage though, - maybe i'll try putting the saddle back on, - putting the seatpost back into the frame and twisting the saddle.
Not sure I like all this though, given that its a pricey carbon seatpost!
As above a short sharp twist of the saddle works for me every time.
I have ibeams on 3 bikes and have not had any clamp issues over the last 3 years or so...
(I have however cracked one 27.2 post and bent another...but thats a different story)
Thanks, I'll give it a try
