I have plenty of different styles of jerseys, vests and jackets (some are older than my children 😬) but am after something a bit different. Now my criteria is pretty specific and so far haven't found a jersey that meets these that doesn't cost circa £100+
Anyone recommend a thin long sleeve jersey for UK long distance off road cycling, criteria is:
- Temperature rating of between 10 and 20 degree C (aka a Scottish summer 😎).
- At least half zip or ideally full zip
- No brash logos or neon colours. Black isn't too great either.
- Fit is to be slim but not roady type where they size their clothing for children and jockeys 🙂
- Ideally has 3 rear pockets as well as a small zipped pocket for money etc
- Budget is under £50
- No Endura, I've had enough of their stuff falling apart as well as their lottery sizing 😣
Your help is much appreciated 👍
Meant to be 'Scottish' summer in the title 😣
I blame productive text 😋
Scottish summer? Goretex and midge repellent 🙂
That Rivelo is nice and right on budget. I've got a couple of long sleeve merino cycling jerseys and you're right, they're a touch too warm for what I'm after. Thanks for the suggestion 👍
For a bit of background on why I'm so specific in my requirements.
Last year I bought a thin DHB long sleeve mountain bike jersey and loved it. It was a bit of a revelation to me it was so good. Despite being thin, it was highly breathable yet warm. Not the cold clammy feeling you can get with when sweating in some synthetic materials. Perfect for temperatures between 10 - 20 C.
And if too warm on the climbs then just pull up the sleeves. The long sleeves were great at minimising scratches from Heather and general summer vegetarian as well was helping keep the insects at bay.
Just it was quite baggy and had no zip nor rear pockets. Perfect for mountain biking when your spares and snacks are either on the bike or in a bag. When on longer off-road rides I prefer to share the load between the bike and my rear jersey pockets.
What about the Fiandre light no rain jersey?
I came on to recommend the Rivelo Woodside. Being a merino blend, it has a very soft "feel" to it. However, it doesn't wet out as much and doesn't take so long to dry as pure merino. I normally pair it with a sleeveless Endura mesh baselayer. The cuffs are (just) wide enough that I can hook them up to my elbows for a bit of temperature regulation. I'm actually thinking of buying another.
Cheers @scotroutes, high praise indeed. Maybe I shouldn't discount the Rivelo.
I'll also check out the Fiandre. 👍
You lost me at "no Endura". I reckon half of my riding gear is Endura and there are only two garments that have equalled or bettered what they do:
1. A previous version Gore Phantom, which is falling apart but remains peerless, as a three season long/short sleeve top.
2. A £15 PlanetX LS shirt in a brushed/flock/slightltly furry, fairly windproof outer type fabric. Covered in fairly shouty logos though. Cost me £1.50/year so far I reckon..
Each to their own.
@boxelder, don't take my expressing of an individuals experience on a brand personally.
I've had numerous good experiences with Endura since taking up cycling in 2005 but have had more unsatisfactory experience with their products to now stay away from them. That's my choice which is fine.
You obviously have had different experiences and that is also fine.
