Which enduro trails do folk reckon are best for the autumn/ winter monsoon season in Scotland? I know a few at the Golfie and Inners that work in the wet but what about elsewhere? I often ride Dunkeld, Ballo, Pitlochry, Aberfoyle etc. What are folks go to trails when it’s wet and sloppy?

Aye, for 3 weeks just now. Hopefully that’s not an issue in the medium term.

I’d still be keen to hear what folk reckon for post Covid winter riding.

There's not a cat's chance in hell they'll change fur the better in 2 weeks.

Inners and Golfie are best tbh, there's a good base of stone down there, everywhere else I can think of is just glaur.

Okay, forget Covid. Imagine I’m asking the question for a post Covid world!

Agreed re: Golfie and Inners.

I think most of the popular tweed valley trails work well all year round, they tend to embrace the slop pretty well and even the offpistes are really well crafted for runoff etc, and high traffic tends to cut and clear mud, or destroy things, so as winter piles in you quite quickly find out what's working well and what's not. With so much choice it's no hardship avoiding ones that you're not liking in those conditions. I feel like a vandal riding green wing, angry sheep etc but on the other hand a lot of the steeper stuff is grippier in the wet than in summer

Dunkeld's ace too but any time I've ridden there in the mud there's always been a couple of trails that were just a battle, not because they were hard but because they were sticky and didn't have enough gradient. Others go very treacherous but imo in a good way, I know a lot of folks don't appreciate that much. I don't know Aberfoyle as well but even in the summer it can be pretty wet.

Ballo suffers badly in the wet being loam held together with tree roots. Dunkeld is slightly better. Neither are as winter friendly as inners/Golfie.

Pentlands Isn't a bad place to spend the day actually. Not exactly challenging, but a decent workout.

Newtyle Hill at Dunkeld drains very well. Rake and Ruin always seems to run well too. The rest is a fair mix!

Aberfoyle has some of the slickest rocks/big pebble things I’ve ever seen. Even the easier parts are still often like the Golfie but with anti-grip. Can be entertaining....

We can travel, they just advise not to. I've seen plenty of people travel outside the central belt on IG

poah, agree, and Strava doesn't lie !

It's been left down to individual feeling of what is right and wrong. I explored some stuff down Clydeside around Blantyre and Bothwell Castle yesterday - shoulda just gone to Mugdock !

I'll be staying away - going to stay local which still gives me a massive area to ride in.

^^^ I did mainly low level stuff. Nice easy surfaced stuff on the north side of the river from Blantyre up to Uddingston. On the south side more a sniff it out job, though had seen some stuff on Strava. Some nice rooty singletrack, very very muddy, interspersed with burnt out cars, broken bottles and remnants of fires at regular intervals. I know that some who ride there regularly have pieced together a pleasant hour's circuit, I found most of it, but missed a few bits. I'd go back, but with a local guide !

That was South Lanarkshire.

In the North we do a better class of burnt out structures...

I'll take my chances on Aberfoyle death trails instead

They won't be too bad, been a while since I've been there tbh, but they hold up no too bad in the wet.

@NoBeer really
I f@ckin hated Dunoon in the wet
Those old tree stumps are lethal in the wet
Think I was on my arse more than upright
As for Aberfoyle
I have a love/hate wae that place
I bloody hate it
Trails on my doorstep are Kilpatrick hills and they are not to shabby
Can be entertaining in the slop but still better than Aberfoyle and Mugger

The OKs are pretty good in winter. Not sure about the stuff in the woods but the trails facing the Clyde always seemed good, the only problem is the absolute lack of shelter!

Heavily overgrown and have had little to no maintenance in a long time

lol, I never said it was good! I've been once, it's no better than my local stuff up by West Kilbride, so I've never been back. It was pissing wet that day, didn't seem too bad!.

Agree, OK's are good.
