Hey there everyone has anyone had any problems with either of these carbon frames with cracks, flexing, bad shocks ? I'm just asking as i was thinking of buying a xc rocketship, i have a anthem x 10.8kg which i love but was wondering about these two for the future or maybe yetis asr 5c (looks a little heavy though) . yes i am aiming for a really light bike for xc racing/trail but carbon i think is the next step fpr me . I race and ride pretty hard for a light guy im not very fast though but i do chuck the bike around a bit so i worry about the carbon toughness. Any views or advice? i've check to forum but not many poepl have the blur xc or yetis ...sparks look good but geez they feel thin and i heard the shock is shit..........thanks all.
My Blur XCc is almost two years old and the only thing that would show this is that the lacquer on the top tube has started to go a bit "matt" where my legs/arse come into contact with it.
I wouldn't dismiss the ASR 5C until you've had a chance to ride one.
Driudh thanks ... I have seen the Blur XC carbon i NZ when i was home and no one hard a bad word to say about it but i never tried one dammn it. And the guys said it could take a hammering but would recommend a 120mm fork though .There is no SC i seen racing here people are Epic S works crazy or spark mad i Denmark . I liked the spark racey feel the Epic is nice but to costly and everyone has one now...but the blur is a rare thing here.
i like the 12mm rear dropout axle option of the yeti and s-works really stiff
I've already seen a Yeti ASR-5C with a cracked swingarm (cracked around the lower main pivots, both sides) so not sure if that might end up being a one off or a weak spot on them.
In terms of the SC Blur xc Carbon, pre 2011 models have been known to suffer from sheared upper ti linkage bolts, this often rapid failure in turn overstresses the right seat stay often causing it to crack. The bolts have been altered on the 2011 model so this issue should be fixed now. They're otherwise pretty solid frames.
i've got a spark and had zero problem with it. out in all weathers, raced on it and generally given it a proper beating. quality piece of kit.
Scott's are generally pretty tough, And if Nick Craig rides one it's probably tough enough for you 🙂
my carbon Zesty has taken all I can throw at it including Sierra Nevada and Atlas mountains plus countless enduros etc. Carbon is here to stay.
Awesome the zesty i used one in germany last year . The best trail bike i ever ridden .
anyone tried the rocky mountain element rsl msl ?, looks nice dont hear much about them ..are they durable considered a top tier racer etc.
Nothing wrong with a Sparc - you should test ride one. Carbon is tough as old boots as well - have dents in cranks from boulders bouncing up, but downtube is hardly marked.
I've got a spark. No problems and no flexing (it's stiffer than a stiff thing).
I've got a spark (on my 2nd, though the 1st frame is fine, and for sale!) i love it. great bike, number of our local races use the numerous downhill tracks at inners. More than happy to batter down them all on the spark. jumps, drops, rocks and roots included.
Thanks all for your input i'll definately give the spark a try but the others are not common in Denmark so when im home in NZ this year i'll organize a ride on the SC and yeti if i can.
Just to let of you know if your intrested i have a Anthem X is worth a look if carbon is a little to pricey for people i have ridden the Anthem X rock shox sid team 2009 and the same 2011 with the tapered and 15mm axle f32 fox with the lockout on the hbars model.....and wow i was so impressed with the difference to and already awesome little rocketship. The handling was so much more direct and i'm totally sold on the idea now that i've tried them both. So i hope Scott and SC will adapt their XC bikes to it ...only problem is it well make deciding on a new XC weapon harder than ever 🙂
Still got my first model year Spark. Done plenty of guiding, XC racing, loonie races and even balls to the wall bike park XC races doing 'transition to transition' runs down crank it up - locked out!
Amazing bike.
Swapped my 100mm fork out for a 120mm.. much friendlier bike with the more relaxed angle the extra 20mm travel gives.
My busines partner runs a spark with a 15qr 150mm talas as his do everything pedal bike. Super versatile!
I have a 11 year old Scott Strike.
I am prone to bike / tree interfaces.
I am not a delicate rider.
I have not broken the frame.
If I can break a Scott carbon frame, you won't. I guess they will have improved further in the last 11 years.
to be fair WCA, i've broken 3 😀
