Has anyone tried both Scott and Shimano SPD shoes?

How do they compare size wise?

I'm a size 45 in Shimano, do I need a 44 in a Scott or stick with 45? Are they as narrow or a bit wider?

(Yes, I know I can order a pair and send them back if they don't fit, but just trying to avoid a bit of extra hassle.)

Smaller usually.  I’m 47 in Shimano and 46.5 in everything else including Scott.

Expected that would be the case, thanks for confirming.

depends on the last also..i'm a 46 and my 'xc' index 8/9 shoes are much tighter than my 'am' index 6/7shoes.
Essentially, the higher the stiffness index, the smaller the last used IIRC.

Thanks BearBack, I hadn't compared the stiffness index until you mentioned it. Looks like the ones I'm considering are rated 6, so hopefully more comfortable for all day rides, maybe?

I dont believe there is anything worst than uncomfortable riding shoes,  personally I would just order a few sizes if online and return what I dont need which is usually free of charge.

Thanks for your replies and sage advice. I selected a pair of Scott Comp Boa in size 44 to replace my Shimano M089 in size 45. Lengths are almost identical, but the Scotts are definitely wider. First quick ride today felt good. I'll put them through a more extensive test next weekend.
