Anyone riding the Scott Marathon at Llandovery this weekend?
I'll be heading down on the Sat for registration and my lad's in the Hope Academy in the afternoon.
No idea what would be the best bike choice for the Monster Marathon? Am thinking chubby hardtail (as I don't have a short travel FS) - and wasn't too sure of the terrain so figured the trail hardtail may be a more sensible choice than the race HT.
What are these events like? the usual lycra boys disappearing off the line and then a more social mid pack? or the whole field treating as a race? Not really sure what I have signed myself up for to be honest!!
And can anyone recommend any child friendly pub/eateries for early evening in the vicinity please?
Thanks!
Personally I'll be on my 29er XC FS, just for the comfort and the fact that the majority of the climbing is long gradual stuff as opposed to steel ramps. I wouldn't have any qualms about taking your 'race' HT. Basically you want to be on the bike that climbs best and won't beat you up.
The pointy end is fast, seriously fast, expect the 100km to be rattled off in under 5 hours. To be honest it's all pretty sociable.
As for food, I haven't got a clue
What Steve said ^^.
I'll bet there competing the 75km on my Scott Spark, looking forward to it.
