So, Scale 910 frame, 2 years old.
Something happened last week - probably the mech going into the wheel. Not entirely sure of the order of events.
Anyways, the small machine screw that holds the thru bolt metal thread piece in the frame sheared off and the hanger and mech span backwards in the dropout.
This essentially ripped the rear of the carbon dropout away as the hanger span backwards
The hanger failed to do it's job and is the only thing left intact (a couple of spokes, the rear mech, the frame)
Scott have declined to honour the warranty as a defect because in their view, this was an "incident" and have offered me a crash cost replacement.
I'm in 2 minds what to do.
In my view, the design and parts have failed to do their job here.
1) the bolt sheared under a reasonably expected situation.
2) the hanger failed to do its job as cannon fodder - possibly because of this design.
Do I have a reasonable case here?
TIA
Do I have a reasonable case here?
I think you have a reasonable case for what they've offered - a crash replacement. Not sure you have a reasonable case for anything else on a 2 year-old frame.
Is the price for a crash replacement frame? Is it a good price for a brand new frame?
It's a good price for a new frame.
Exceedingly frustrating as this was a common and garden incident resulting in the destruction of a 2 year old XC frame through the failure of a component key to the design.
Anyways, maybe I've had my money's worth out of it.
Regarding crash replacement, I'm wondering if they'll allow me to get a Spark frame at that discount as I've decided that I'm getting too old for the hardtail life. 😀 - going back to my 26er spark made me realise I suited the XC FS better.
