Hello,I'm staying in Moffat for a week soon and was wondering if there was any hidden gems, nice rides that have not been effected too much by the storms .I know about Ae forest - trailforks reveals some riding in the Craigieburn Plantation area close to Moffat?
Moffat is very close to the Tweed Valley...
Yeah I'll be heading there for sure Stu.We were originally booked in to stay there again in Inners but the folks we usually rent off and were booked with are selling up so .....ended up in Moffat .
Not sure but i think there's a forum dweller that lives in Moffat?
The Pilot or something like that? Maybe they can help with more local stuff?
Either way it's a lovely drive over to the valley.
Craigieburn worth a go. If you look up Street Pigeon on You Tube he’s got a vid up of the trails there I don’t think he’s given the location away though
take a walk up the Grey Mares Tail and beyond to Loch Skeen while youre there
Theres some great walking around there
I do indeed live in Moffat. Don't really ride any more though sadly. I sometimes go out the back here but it's not worth recommending. There are trails at Craigieburn but don't know how easy they are to find. Only a couple of miles out of town though so might be worth exploring.
There's a bike shop/repair/hire place here, head back into town from the Co-op, but not sure how open or well stocked it is. If you get stuck and need anything - innertubes, tools, that sort of thing, give me a shout.
There's much to Moffat itself but nice enough for a visit. If eating out or getting takeaway, avoid the Indian restaurant, it's very hit and miss but mostly miss these days. Best Kebabs which is the end of town that will take you to Tweed Valley does good takeaway pizza.
As above, Tweed Valley for riding.
Ae has good DH uplift tracks so they say - too much for me - the red is ok to do once, the blue is dire.
Rock up to Ae on a Tues night around 6pm, group rides followed by a meal in the cafe if you wish. Not done it for a while but if you fancy a hill ride get the local OS map and follow the Southern upland Way towards the Borders. Then at Pawhope(I think)bothy go left towards a track named Bodesbeck which drops you out onto the Selkirk road back to Moffat.
Thanks for the advice.A few areas to look at there.
