As per the title, we're heading up to scotland in march, hoping to ski but being realistic we'll also be taking bikes, just in case the hills are closed due to "weather".

Obviously there are many trail centres we can visit (have ridden many of them as far as Golspie and love them), but what natural routes should I look into, "just in case"?

Will be moving around, planning to stay Braemar (Glenshee / Lecht), moving to Grantown (or maybe Aviemore) (lecht / cairngorm), then somewhere around Fort William / Glencoe.

If the ski centres are closed, it'll probably be due to high winds or drifted snow on the access roads, either of those situations will probably mean that high-level biking will be just as unpleasant, so low level routes might be better. Happy to take suggestions from more local riders though.

Oh, and if anyone fancies joining us for skiing, pipe up 🙂

If there's a lot of snow that closes the ski centres, Laggan will be a nightmare to get to. I've driven that road when the A9 was shut, and there were 6ft drifts either side of the road.

For most of last winter when Aviemore was under feet of snow Laggan had barely a dusting and was open! I think that was a freak occurrence however!

Ridden Laggan a couple of times and really like it. Also rode Moray, Golspie, Learnie and a couple of other trail centres on a road trip.

Rode around Rothiemurchus in may last year, around Loch An Eilein and up towards an Lochan Uaine, took in the trails around Badaguish.

All being well, me & matey will be 'doing' Torridon on the weekend of the 24th March, therefore the weather will be horizontal sleet.

Balblair and Kyle of Lochalsh were the "others" whose names I couldn't recall last night 🙂

On the east there is plenty of stuff around the A9 corridor. Search on here on Pitlochry, Dunkeld & Blair Athol. Plenty of stuff around Aviemore too if the snow isn't too low.

On the West there is the witches & 10 under the ben trails at nevis, kinlochleven & devils staircase, Glen Kinglass.
