is schwalbe's performance line compound really much worse than the Evo line options?

at half the price (25€ on bike diso**** as opposed to 50€), but still a folding tyre, and similar weight, less heavy if anything, it's pretty tempting option.

i ride in dry condtions nearly all the time, so don't really need a clever compound to deal with wet roots/rocks

I found them ok in the dry. The real difference is in wet or when they do let go - I found they let go suddenly, the better compounds 'smeared' more controllably it feels like.

They roll slower and grip less well. Like matt says it's mostly noticable in the wet, so for you it wouldn't be as big a downside as it was for me but still, it's a false economy imo.

Not sure I'd Id have bought an equivalent for the front in performance but I did get a performance version of the Smart Sam for my 29er hardtail for the rear as a lower rolling resistance summer tyre for general XC/gravel/trail....done a good job, went up tubeless no bother and is wearing well.

ok great thanks. might get one in that case and it can go on the back as the coarse sand stone round me eats them up.

them get a nicer one for the front : )
