New SC 5010V2 only 4 rides done. Knocking sound when shock compresses. Can feel it in the shock body when off the bike and through the feet when on.
Relaxed off the shock bottom anchor bolt and the knocking mysteriously disappears, which suggests to me that it is related to binding and friction in the delrin bushing.
Next step is max/min the rebound knob to check its working properly and that an internal seal has not blown.
Was always intending to replace the bushings with needle bearings, which if it is the bushing should solve it. Just seems strange that you get this knocking straight out of the box.
I’ve never owned a SC but my VPP bikes have never knocked like that.
I would say that they’re sneaky I regards to where they feel and sound like they’re loose compared to where they are. Tbh with mine it was always the lower linkage.
Can you feel it when you lift the bike by the saddle?
The lower shock bushing on my SC HT wore out recently after only 250miles from new - I was surprised
My 5010V2 did exactly this when new. Took me a few rides to eliminate pivots/ bushes/ cables and turned out it was in the shock - was knocking under compression when rider on or off the bike. Sent it off to (then)Mojo for a warranty fix and it's been fine since- I think they muttered something about the SantaCruz specific tune and altered something inside (but not sure). Mine was so obviously wrong that it does beg the question why these supposedly premium brands don't do a simple quality check before it goes in the box to the customer....ho hum.
Sounds like a warranty fix. That's a pain, at least it should be free.
Never had that issue on my Bronson V2. RS monarch shock.
I've had similar, but not ona santa cruz, it turn out it was the shock bolt being just a smidge too tight. I loosened the bolt by a quarter or half a turn and the knocking went away
Replaced the lower bushing with a needle bearing. Knocking has now gone away.
End of the metal barrel through the bushing had lost most of its anodizing, suggesting the barrel was rotating not the bushing as intended (too tight) and was grinding on the linkage.
Reminds me of my previous bike where the same thing happened to the upper connection to the frame. After time, the barrel rotation had gouged chunks out of the carbon frame at the connection. Also replaced with a needle bearing.
