hi all,

just got a MK1 Hightower without a shock, and its been an age before I bought a shock

now I know it needs a 200x51 for the 135mm travel, but all the used shocks have certain tunes for what bikes they have come off, im assuming they are no good?

it originally came with a monarch with L reb, L compression, I don't want a monarch

will a 200x50 fit ok?

should I long shock it and fit a 200x57mm? gives 150mm travel with the chips flipped,

bit lost really, help!

200x50 will fit perfectly, there is no difference in the real world

Think I have the original RS shock off my Hightower somewhere if you're interested in it?
Did one ride on it while I was waiting for an X2 to arrive.
Been sat in bubble wrap somewhere since.
I'll have a look for it if you're interested?

The mate I sold the frame and X2 to had the spacer removed out the shock and the tyre hit the seat tube on bottom out.
Had the spacer sawn down to 3mm and re fitted.

It was a bit of both TBH
Half hearted attempt to move some spares on and also advice if you read between the lines.

This. They are actually probably identical in length anyway and the difference is just the rounding up / down when converting from the imperial (2") length figure.

I ran a Cane Creek DBCoil IL on mine, which was very nice.

Fox float evol on mine and pretty happy with it. Part of me would like some more knobs to play with but then I pretty much always just forget about this when I’m out riding.

X2 is often the advised route for super plushness or DVO Topaz. I went with the Topaz option, best shock I’ve had on a bike, which includes offerings from fox, RS and Cane creek. Just enough adjustability without getting lost in the detail, only slight hassle is regularly topping up the bladder.

Reasonable price and the 51 version that fits the Hightower as a stop which when removed gives more travel. I ground it down to 2mm, rear tyre in Lowe setting was very close to rubbing the frame so run in high, but I also have had a offset bushing.

Don’t bother with a fox dps, if you run it soft enough for small bumps it will blow through the travel too easily.

i had a Fox DPX2 in 200x51 in my Hightower when i had it. transformed the bike. don't longshock it, a world of tyre rub and disappointment awaits for virtually no benefit.

basically anything but the monarch it came with will be better. might as well put a metal bar in for all that did.
