Anyone ridden both? Tested a SC 5010 the other day and liked it a lot. On paper the Yeti SB5c looks similar and may fit me better (always come up between sizes on Santa Cruz), so interested in how they compare.

Doubt anyone's ridden an SB5c yet - but for me, it'd be a choice between Yeti's proper length top tubes, snappy chainstays and complex suspension verus Santa Cruz' weird tiny sizing and reliable suspension.

Tricky.

Yes that about sums it up! By the way, when you refer to "snappy" do you mean tendency to break, or quick??

Considering the brand, I imagine the former, rather than the latter.

Reliable has a different meaning in Colorado 😉

A few years ago on a totally different yeti frame some stays cracked and so keyboard warriors like to bring it up ad nauseum, in the same vein as orange 5's are made from filing cabinets, superstar pads will fall apart and kill you, etc, etc, etc, when in fact everything is fine.

but yes santa cruz and yeti are very different in terms of length, I'm a giant with a long back and comparitively short legs so short SC just don't fit, whereas the long yeti fit suits me well.

They had a stay snapping problem on 575s, had a similar problem on SB66s, and pretty sure they had it on another frame or two - and I know some folks who have had even bigger, worse issues with their Yetis.

The stays on my 575 have not snapped.

The people who snap them understandably shout about it but there are probably loads of people like me riding around on 10yr old bikes that refuse to be anything but reliable.

I wouldnt have either as I think they are both hugely expensive for what they are.

So you ride a bike purely based on the price?

My Blur LTC cracked; plenty of other SC issues of pivots becoming unbonded.

Funny how they never get brought up..

The Yeti Sb66C that replaced the Blur has not ever gone wrong. It's lovely. If the SB5C is hlaf as good it'll be twice as good as a Santa Cruz.

Fact.

Absolutely - it's about perception, whether you or I feel that there's a disproportionate number of Yetis that break.

For me, and what I've seen of the brand, they're lovely looking bikes with sorted geometry and ropey quality. Bike's that my heart might lean towards but my head wouldn't.

I tend to agree, much as I would like a 5010.

So you ride a bike purely based on the price?

Very tenuous reasoning used to jump to that assertion

My mate has been through 3 rear triangles on his SC Blur TRc, and I went through 2 on my original Ibis Mojo. From my perspective, stuff will always break, and it's much more important how you are treated both inside and outside the warrantee period, and in both the above, there were no complaints so would happily buy again, accepting there is a risk of a problem.
Not really interested in a debate about value - tough to argue a £1500 frame offers value with most people, let alone one costing almost twice that, but it doesn't stop me being willing to buy one.

Ive seen pics of Solos and tallboys cracking too, all brands have some QC issues. Its how they look after you that counts.

Can Howard at Pedal and Spoke not sort you out with a demo on the Yeti? I thought he was a dealer for them as well as SC now.

It does there is a huge post on MTBR about it. Seems to be LTc's, TRc's and original Carbon Nomads iirc.

Having spoken to Mountain Trax in Wokingham, seems none have landed in the UK yet. Due in early Sept according to Silverfish.

My LTc has been faultless. My mates SB66c has had a full frame warranty replacement and 2 main bearings at about £80 a pop. If the SB5c is twice as good as the SB66c, it'll be half as good as my SC and cost double the amount to run.
All bikes have issues, your personal experiences will dictate what you think is reliable.

I know an equal number of people with santa Cruz and yeti. I've heard more complaints about the Yetis breaking which leads me to one of two conclusions; 1 - Yetis cracks more than santa cruzes or 2 - Yeti owners are whiney attention whores. 😈
