So as promised, due to some unforeseen missing bits, here are some build pics.
So far headset and forks fitted.
Stealth reverb threaded and set up. BB and drivetrain to follow. Bit wet to be out side with the work stand.

Does a five really need a chainstay protector with the chainstay all the way up there?
An Orange in Yeti colours doesn't seem right IMHO.. 😳
Great colour
Yeah nice colour, same colour as my kitchen! 😆
lovely but i'm still concerned about the plastering in the background

To be fair, they started it....

🙂
Nice colour op.
Yer cable's, nope not on the bike, in the background.. on the extension lead...
Tidy that up please, ta.
Nice colour bike 😉
No arguing it's a nice colour!
Ha Ha no wood burner!!! 🙂
Argh yes NHS green (well turquoise sitting on the fence between green and blue) only bettered by battleship grey 😉
Looking good nearly ready for some rock smashing 🙂
Ha ha ha we only moved into our first house last year and had an electric fire out in. That plastering is just where the old plug socket was moved.
We are doing that room in a few months time.
I love the green (mountain mint).
The builds stopped now as Orange seem set in causing me no end if comparability issues! Is mount break now.
Nice Bike OP. Would look great with some custom colour matched Fork Decals......
(go the extra mile, you know you want too....... 😆 )
Oh and the chain stay protector came with the bike, thought I might as well use it.
I've got the standard gold decals to go on. The orange were matched to the bike they came off.
The non kashima shock is annoying my OCD ha
It's the chainring set at 90 degrees off that's setting my ocd on edge.
I'm not surprised you couldn't afford a workstand, the price of them Orange frames.
To be fair, they started it....
😆
You have very soft and friendly looking hands
I have a work stand lol it was up in the kitchen!

You have very soft and friendly looking hands
I bet you say that to all the [s]girls[/s] boys...... 😆
Really like the colour. Dos it have a technical name / RAL number? looking to spray a frame in this / very similar colour.
Orange call it mountain mint
RAL 6027 is "Bianchi Celeste"
cheers Bregante. That looks a little paler? could just be the google pics.
I have the lord of the rings trilogy to prop mine up..
All 4 volumes 🙂
Doesn't matter what colour they paint it, it's still a godamned ugly frame. All about the ride though ain't it.
All about opinion isn't it. Beauty is in the eye and all that.
C'mon lets not be mean about someones new ride? That's someones new child!
Love the colour, looks a good spec too. Enjoy!
My mate has stuck an order in this week for a Fizzy Orange frame. He's not on here but I've directed him to this thread and he's now cursing me. 😆

All 4 volumes
4th one is the Silmarillion..
Looks amazing, I've been convincing myself for a long time not to spend £200 on a factory respray but I absolutely love it. May well be tempted in the near future!!
Yeah yeah, nice bike OP. Hope you intend to clean that chainset properly before you fit it...
I like the colour of the bike, but for some reason your hand repulses me 😯
What a bizarre and offensive comment.
Have you never heard the saying "if you've got nothing good to say..."
Sorry to offend I didn't think the comment would be taken as anything other than a bizarre comment made by a random internet stranger. You didn't have a lawn or fence I could comment on. However, I am aware of the saying and did state 'I like the colour of the bike', but your hand did turn my stomach a bit. It doesn't seem as bad now, so perhaps it was a bit early and I was feeling a little delicate. I didn't realise you were also so delicate, so my apologise, and I hope you enjoy the bike.
I trust your redecoration will include redoing the flooring properly to get rid of the quadrant moulding. I like the colour, but would dispense with the protector. Fingers are a little plump.
Did this Saturday build ever get finished? Was interested to see it.
I was bullied as a child about my hands so it sticks.
Yeah, did you get it dirty ??
Smell_it, you are a bit out of order with the comment. Early morning, hungover, in jest or as a random attempt at humour.
Mosey, bike looking good mate, really pleased I went for Mountain Mint having seen your build pics. Is it just the brake mount you are waiting for to finish the build?
I placed my order for the new Four on Friday, hoping for delivery in the next 2 weeks. I debated the Five or Four for a few days and settled on the Four as it will suit my needs better. Looking forward to getting it. I'll post some pics up when it arrives.
Hi,
Yeah just brake mount and bleed kit to get me going.
Should be finished midweek depending on work. Not had a minute today due to work.
The 4 looks ace mate. I'd have considered it if I'd known about it. You'll love it.
Midweek? Shockingly tardy for a Saturday build.
Imagine if Fresh Goods Friday turned up on a Tuesday.
Ha ha ha something came up and I've been away for my mum's birthday today.
Its had to take a back seat.
Only came here to see finished pics. Damnit, work harder man!
What's happened now? Still no finished build...
🙂
All the bits showed up today. Well I picked them up. Build commences tomorrow morning.
I'll update with pics as I go 🙂
^^ that is most certainly a bike that says "I'm an Orange Five"
Looks good so far! I like the colour!
That Mountain Mint is a fantastic colour! Would definitely be my choice.
Come on Mosey... Get this bike built and let us have a look!
Ha ha ha it's Valentine's Day. Once I've been a good husband it's build time lol.
So that's a 2 minute delay on the start of the build!
What, he's doing it twice? 😉
That's with a brew too right?
Stop wasting time...
Yeah come on. Many on here would have built it, ridden it, pointlessly upgraded and flogged it in the time you're taking to build it. 😉
Ha ha ha this is definitely my keeper. I said that about my last 3 bikes though.

The delay is down to required bits. I ordered the wrong brake mount etc.
And finally getting started -
I brought the stand inside as it's just too cold outside.
Big biz of shiny new 1x11 bits that my amazing wife bought me 🙂
Ignore the messy kitchen please 🙂

No bacon on the grill pan - minus 1.7m points!
But +10 for the wife buying you bits.
That's cool, and I don't like Orange 5's. 8)
So, first problem after lots of wins. Gear cable went through the swing arm perfectly. I've bled the reverb and it works and fitted the Ispec b XT shifter.
Brake cable went through surprisingly easily until I realised the rubber cover doesn't fit through the hole 🙁
How do I get round this?

Help please !!!!!
On my old 5 the hose just came out the hole, no cover/bung
That looks like the cover on the brake lever? If so you need to disconnect the hose.
Also my old five did't have a grommet on that hole in the swinging arm.
That's the rubber sheath that covers the pinch bolt where it enters the lever.
I'll have to chop it off and put a new and olive on 🙁 no way it will fit through.
I was just using the same hose so it wouldn't fit over the olive.
Not having a geommet there would annoy me, esp. with price of the frame
Oh well, New olive, insert, sheath and bleed it is.
I'd just take the brake hose back out the swing arm, take the rubber grommet off that goes on the lever.
Thread the rod that comes with the frame back through the swingarm and tape the brake hose to it. Then pull it back through.. And then bleed the rear brake.
Pics of progress..
double post sorry
Had to stop now as my power links have all gone walkabout.
Here is the build so far. Really happy with the XT M8000 gear.
I'll update with better pictures in the daytime tomorrow.

I'm with Golddigger, hoses look braided so little chance of the frame rubbing them through. If frame damage is a concern some insulating tape round the hose until a grommet can be fitted.
Goldigger, you can't do that mate. The rubber sheath doesn't fit over the olive and nut. The rubber sheath has to go in first. Or in this case, the hose has to go through the swing arm without the olive and nut in place.
