Santa Cruz warranty replacement question

So, this is a bit of an odd one but bear with me....

I'm buying a bike from a shop that is sadly closing. When they were building my bike they realised that there's a fault with the frame and it needs to be replaced under warranty.  It's a bit annoying in that because the shop is closing I'm going to be sent a box of bits and a (faulty) frame and then have to wait for a replacement from SC and then either build it up myself or pay someone to do it (I have been given a small token refund towards this cost but nowhere near the full bike shop labour charge)

When discussing all this with the shop I enquired whether there was any chance the warranty replacement could be a MY25 (rather than my current MY24) frame, or if I could pay to "upgrade" to this. I've been told a firm no and that it's a "like for like" replacement.

However, someone I've heard about has had their MY22 Bronson replaced with a MY2025 because there were obviously no 2022's left. This seems a bit odd.

Would they not replace a 2022 with a 2024 if they had those in stock?

Any experience of such things?

ta

It will be at SantaCruz’discretion.  If they’ve got MY24 frames kept back for warranty, that’s what you’ll get.  If they haven’t, you may receive an upgrade to MY25.  Lucky you’re not on Trek, they used to have no problem with just issuing a front or rear section of frame for warranty, if that didn’t match yours, tough titties.

Santa cruz in my experience has one of the best waranties there is. Your best bet is to contact santacruz direct, they are usually very quick and will be more than willing to help. If they do not have a my24 in stock they will usually give you an option to chose whatever frame you want, at least that has been my experience. I can't see any reason you can't reject the faulty bike for a full refund and get a my24 instead????

Re the above, I could cancel the sale but it was a good deal so would rather not start looking around again. I was just a bit confused about the process given different years being replaced with MY24 or MY25 etc!

I mate of a mate recently had a Chameleon frame replaced on warranty with a Hightower C frame (without shock) because Santa Cruz had no Chameleon frames in the right size left, pretty sure he sold it and bought another hardtail frame with a fair chunk of cash leftover

So if they have surplus older frames not doing anything, instead you think they should give you one of the brand new that people are still buying frames? Having said that the SC warranty is brilliant so as has been suggested drop them an email to see what they say. I had a previous maverick frame for more than a year and always had issues with the moulding in the dropper housing, it would take someone pulling whilst someone else pushed to get it through. I dropped them an email after getting a lot of riding out of it and as soon as I showed evidence of the frame having been hacksawed apart, I had a brand new mens hightower version in a standard colour which meant I could sell it on a lot easier.

^^ ummm not exactly no. I’m confused as to why they’d replace a 2022 frame with a 2025 and a 2024 with a 2024.

I’ll try to call them but the warranty claim has been submitted by the bike shop so I’m not entirely sure how it works / if they’d speak to me..

Quite straightforward no?

they’re more likely to still have a 2024 frame to replace a 2024 warranty.

For a 2022 they would have had a limited supply of spares which I given it’s nearly four years ago are likely exhausted, so they offered the other person a 2025.

up to them to replace like for like which is what I suspect they’ll do.

I expect that they’ll give you exactly the same model if they have one and if not you’ll get lucky and get a new one.

At the end of the day as long as you get the bike you paid for then anything else is a bonus.
