Looks like SC are following the likes of Orbea and offering an E Bike at a friendlier price .
Apologies if this has been done and also that I can't do the direct link 🙄
2 models one under £5K still a big wedge I know
Saw that earlier. Weight around 24.5kg apparently although not sure what spec is at that weight. Actually prefer the Shimano drivetrain and brakes on the cheapest model (vs SRAM on the next spec up) but crappier fork and shock. No flip chips etc like the carbon version gets.
Irrelevant anyway as they're only doing it up to XL, so lanky folk like me still need the carbon version for XXL (as SC have always done for al v carbon models).
Not going to tempt me away from my Heckler SL.
So that’s where the GT frames have gone. I wondered what pon would do with them.
Same as @a11y for me. No XXL, no go. It is really annoying how few bikes come in XXL. Sticking to my Heckler SL too. Just hoping for a range extender soon
Actually looks ok for an ebike, the downtube isn't quite so horribly oversized as some others! I'd certainly try one out if I was in the market for an eeb.

Because Santa Cruz took the decision to limit their bikes to 600Wh max battery size, which immediately cuts their market in half IMO... I'll agree they do look sleeker, but purposefully cutting off a whole chunk of your potential market by limiting the max battery size to such a degree seems an odd tactic to me!
they do allow you to clip on the 250w range extender if you want it

I'm sure their research would've shown most folk barely approach draining a 600Wh for the majority of their riding. No benefit to carrying around extra weight for the times you don't need it. Adding a battery extender for the odd occasion it's needed, in exchange for a lighter bike more of the time is a fair exchange to me.
Under £5k before discounts is a clever price point for Santa Cruz.
Looks better in silver although those welds are far from pretty (I'm spoiled with my Geometron/Nicolai weld appearance though).
Not as non e-bikey as the Heckler SL but not much is:
It’s a chunky piece now, considering it’s only got a 600w battery - real world will be the wrong side of 25kg, for a ‘trail’ ebike.
Now they have the Bullit back, the Vala makes more sense as their mid travel option which probably should have come with the SX motor & a 400 / 600 battery option.
Then they could have thrown every Fazua bike they have made in the bin, as the warranty bill is crippling them.
Shame there arnt many actual decent aluminium ebike offerings these days.
I've never understood the 400wh option, you've still got a relatively heavy motor. Plus the bosch range extender doesn't give you the drain first option that spesh does.
600 gets me 5000ft in trail mode, albeit with the peak output pulled down and the response/assist setting softened slightly. Its a good amount for a day out for most people. Range extender chucked on at 30% in the main battery gets you to 7000ft
Armchair experts in the Pinkbike comments making some pretty scathing (but some valid) points...

Indeed.
It looks like a cookie-cutter catalogue frame. Couldn't be any more generic if it tried. And it's hefty too.
Those SC stickers are doing some heavy lifting with the pricing eh?
SX motor
Nah... CX motor with small battery is ideal... the SX is lacking for crunch moves off road... it's a gravel/commuter motor.
